POSITION PURPOSE:
Delivers timely and effective paramedic level emergency medical care to patients of all ages in both emergency and non-emergency situations, ensuring stabilization and/or resuscitation as needed due to illness or injury. Responds to ambulance calls, follows established system protocols and NIMS standards for scene management, and accurately document all care provided. When available, assists in the Emergency Department by performing advanced airway management, medication administration, and assists with delegated tasks such as assessments, vital signs, IV initiation, ECGs, and documentation, as well as decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assess patients with a variety of medical conditions or injuries.
Prepares patient care reports with 24 hours of completing the ambulance trip.
Triages, prioritizes, and anticipates patients’ needs. Develops a plan of care.
Provides ongoing evaluation, altering the plan of care as indicated. Documents findings and interventions.
Implements interventions consistent with protocols documenting response to treatment.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.
Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training required within three (3) months of hire
Valid drivers required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
Emergency Vehicle Operations training within six (6) months of hire.
