Your role

Great opportunity to join the Portfolio Management Project Finance team for a 6-month STA. This is a junior/mid-level lending professional role within the front office with a special focus on Renewables & Power sector. As a key member of the Portfolio Management team, your responsibility is to actively manage your own lending portfolio in collaboration with more junior colleagues. On the team, you will be exposed to and work with different colleagues from several Sectors (focusing on Energy, TMT&H and CF&A), TM, CM&A, Risk and Legal whilst aligning with back office / support teams.  At the same time, the Portfolio Management team plays a key role in further optimizing our processes for regulatory readiness, operational effectiveness and portfolio optimization.

In a nutshell, the STA will be expected to take responsibility for the portfolio covered with the support of junior colleagues. This position also entails close communication with Risk (among others). This unique STA opportunity will allow the candidate to i) gain valuable R&P sector knowledge, ii) have ownership of the portfolio, and iii) support junior colleagues in their development through delegation..

Your responsibilities

  • The Portfolio Management Project Finance team is the ‘center of excellence’ for the in-life management of ING’s project finance lending exposure. It covers all activities post the initial funding to the final repayment of a lending transaction. As a front office department, it is closely collaborating with Origination & Structuring colleagues and product specialists to ensure a seamless client experience. The Portfolio Management function is orga   nised along product and sector considerations. Each portfolio manager covers a set of portfolio clients and acts as the first point of contact for the ongoing credit monitoring, analytics, internal risk and other reporting. Portfolio Management supports the identification of cross-buy opportunities and is also closely involved in the delivery of ING’s capital velocity targets. The team is being supported by Global Lending Support in Dublin and the ING hub in the Philippines. Together with Tribe Lending and CLEC, it is a key driver of improving processes, standardisation, and digitalisation across Lending.
  • The specific responsibilities of expected for an STA as this level include actively managing all facets of the individual files booked in your dedicated portfolio with the support of junior colleagues, including but not limited to:
    • Quarterly and annual credit reviews as well as portfolio reviews;
    • Process amendment and waiver requests, write or review credit modifications, submit to risk and address Q&A, follow-up on the required legal amendments to the documentation until execution;
    • Prepare and process risk rating updates for project finance clients, submit to risk and address any Q&A;
    • Review annual risk rating updates prepared by an administrative support team for corporate-style clients;
    • Diligent and proactive credit monitoring through the review of all financial covenants and operating performance (e.g. financial models, proforma adjustments, key drivers, etc.) and track compliance of covenants prepared by an administrative support team 
    • Identification and resolution of Early Warning Signals for a deterioration in credit quality.

  • In addition, the candidate should identify market developments and proactively manage their potential impact on your portfolio by:
    • Preparing and maintaining reports as requested by regulators or internal stakeholders;
    • Preparing quarterly portfolio reviews;
    • Maintaining various department and industry databases/trackers;
    • Maintaining internal portfolio tracking metrics;
    • Responding to ad hoc internal requests on portfolio composition and exposure;
    • Coordinating and working with offshore portfolio support teams;
    • Managing lending limits and Capital Velocity programs.

  • Contribute to building a culture of operational excellence by:
    • Staying up to date on organizational operating policies and procedures (i.e. Risk, Legal, etc.) to ensure appropriate protocols are implemented and followed, and facilitating accordingly;
    • Contributing to the implementation of strategic initiatives, including enhancements to the credit monitoring process to improve business efficiency;
    • Identifying productivity trends across the Front Office organization and using insights from reporting to create and drive efficient processes and improve productivity;
    • Supporting the implementation of transformation projects;
    • Coaching more junior colleagues in their personal and professional development.

Qualifications and Competencies

Qualifications / Education

  • Master degree major in business/economics, law or relevant business discipline. CFA a plus

Experience / Knowledge

  • 2-5yr years of relevant credit analysis experience in the banking industry. Experience in project finance and/or portfolio management is strongly preferred
