Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with SolidWorks, BricsCad, Opera or equivalent expertise to lead the design, development, and documentation of mechanical components and security window units. In this role, you will own projects from concept through production, create high-quality 2D & 3D models and detailed engineering drawings, and develop accurate bills of materials to support manufacturing and procurement. You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional engineering, sales, estimating, purchasing and production team, contribute to new product introduction initiatives in a fast-growing, hands-on environment.

- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and units using BricsCad, ensuring that all designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Create, update, and review 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed bills of materials (BOMs) to support engineering, production, quoting, custom designs and procurement activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and engineering, to translate product requirements into practical, production-ready solutions. To ensure accurate and timely processing of orders.
- Support new product introduction efforts by driving designs from concept through prototyping, validation, and release to production.
- Support integration of OPERA quoting/design system.
- Execute standard work procedures while strictly adhering to safety guidelines.
- Maintain and manage CAD documentation, including drawing revisions, file structures, templates, and Product Data Management (PDM) systems to ensure data integrity and consistency.
- Develop and maintain accurate and complete BOMs for custom orders and related documentation to facilitate efficient production planning and material procurement.
- Ability to be cross-functionally trained in the following engineering tools with proficiency: Elusoft, CNC Plus, AP100, Production Designer, 4i Bend, BricsCad, and Opera quoting system.
- Participate in and support root cause analysis and corrective action activities, with a strong focus on design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Fosters a kaizen mindset to challenge established processes, drive innovation, and optimize operational flow.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues involving tolerances, dimensional stack-ups, drawings, or production challenges, and implement effective design improvements.
- Assist with prototype builds, including preparing documentation, supporting assembly, and incorporating feedback into design iterations.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist with Quick/NPI Change Orders and contribute to overall product lifecycle management activities.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, internal engineering requirements, and customer specifications.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical degree
- 3–5 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software (BricsCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent); ability to create production-ready models and drawings.
- Solid understanding of GD&T, engineering drawing standards, and tolerance analysis.
- Ability to read, create, and interpret detailed engineering drawings, including tolerances and geometric dimensioning.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production-oriented environment and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of common manufacturing materials and processes (sheet metal, extrusions, machined parts, welds, etc.). Familiar with Laser, Brake Press, and Shear machines.
- Demonstrated experience with DFM, process improvement, and manufacturing support.
- Familiarity with quality tools: root cause analysis, FMEA, CAPA, and inspection methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; thrives on solving problems independently.
- Experience with ERP or quoting systems a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot design issues and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a small, fast-paced engineering team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain seated and work at a computer workstation for extended periods while performing detailed CAD and engineering work.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, drafting equipment, and other office tools.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout office, engineering, and manufacturing areas to review equipment, inspect products, support prototype builds, and collaborate with production employees.
- Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb stairs, and work in or around production equipment.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull materials, components, tools, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, to review detailed drawings, CAD models, dimensions, tolerances, and manufactured components.
- Ability to distinguish colors, symbols, markings, and other visual details used in engineering drawings and production documentation.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication.
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments, with occasional exposure to noise, moving machinery, metal materials, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe footwear, when entering designated manufacturing areas.
