Description
An individual in this position provides semi-skilled labor by performing maintenance and replacement of residential and commercial water meters and meter boxes. This individual will work closely with the asset management team with meter field verification and mapping. The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.
Emergency Response
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. - Performs semi-skilled labor in a field environment with the repair, maintenance, and replacement of residential and commercial meters 5/8” through 2” in size.
- Performs maintenance on meter boxes by locating, clearing debris, replacing damaged or missing lids, or the entire meter box.
- Completes assigned daily work orders on tablet or other device using asset management / work order software
- Locates and marks county water meter boxes and report's locations to Asset Management team for mapping.
- Troubleshoots and identifies potential problems with the meter, meter box, or service and takes the necessary corrective action.
- Performs manual labor in a field environment safely and efficiently.
- Maintains an adequate stock of material on assigned vehicle to ensure new connections and repairs are made efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
- Interacts with the general public, contractors, and vendors in an effective and professional manner.
- Assists in the periodic meter inventory count as needed.
- Demonstrates commitment and dependability with regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to schedule of availability.
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel.

- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- One (1) year experience in Hernando County utility field work or a related field (preferred).

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida and be insurable by current insurance carrier, or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
- Must have or be able to obtain certification within three (3) months of employment in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
- IS-200.b: ICS for Single Resources & Initial Action Incidents
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
