Overview
The Department of Surgery at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team.
The Medical Assistant is an entry-level position responsible for assisting healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care in a surgical practice. This role involves performing basic clinical and administrative duties while learning the front and back-office workflows and protocols of the practice.
Responsibilities
Prepare patients charts in EMR
- Obtain patient vital signs, advising patients to help them in keeping up with blood pressure, temperature, height and weight.
- Assist physicians with examinations.
- Schedule follow up visits making sure patients are aware of what the physician’s next plan of treatment will be.
Document patient interactions and maintain accurate records in the electronic health record.
Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients.
- Provide pre-op and post-op instructions as directed by providers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Successful completion of a medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and active certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) is required. No prior experience required; entry-level candidates encouraged to apply.
Must have some working knowledge of computers.
Customer service-oriented individuals are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma preferred.
- Previous medical office experience with surgery experience performing relevant functions in a doctor’s office preferred.
