Description
Do you have a passion for public communication, marketing, and community engagement? Do you love storytelling - taking what might seem ordinary and transforming it into something meaningful - and shaping a compelling narrative? The City of Jersey Village is looking for a Communications Specialist to join our team and help share our story with residents, businesses, and the public.
What You'll Do:
As our Communications Specialist, you'll play a key role in shaping how the City communicates. You will:
-
Manage and support city-wide communication initiatives, including public safety and emergency messaging.
-
Oversee and update the City's website, social media channels, newsletters, and other outreach platforms.
-
Write and design engaging content such as press releases, brochures, ads, and community magazine articles.
- Create and facilitate the creation of compelling, modern social media content.
-
Serve as a liaison between departments, residents, the City Council, and news media.
-
Coordinate community outreach events and marketing campaigns.
-
Provide creative input on communication strategies and improvements.
- Inspire the Citywide staff to see value and benefits from engaging in proactive communications.
What We're Looking For:
-
Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field.
-
At least two (2) years of experience in communications, preferably with a local government or public sector organization.
- Proficiency and acumen in social media, including relevant platforms of scale.
-
Strong writing, editing, graphic design, and videography skills.
-
Knowledge of public relations, marketing, and community outreach principles.
-
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
-
Proficiency with digital tools, social media creation and publishing, and website content systems.
- A basic understanding of new AI-powered tools, their potential use in workflow efficiency, and their current limitations (as it relates to this role).
