Job Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The mission of Metrocare Services is to serve our neighbors with developmental or mental health challenges by helping them find lives that are meaningful and satisfying. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, development disabilities, and co-occurring disorders. Metrocare programs focus on the issues that matter most in the lives of the children, families, and adults we serve. The HIM Coordinator is an integral part of the HIM team and is responsible for reviewing and auditing medical records for claims reviews, government audits and staff audits. This role also includes training HIM staff, assisting with required records functions, monitoring, and reporting on record standards and key performance indicators, and communication activities to responsible managers while protecting the confidentiality of individuals served. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job. Provide direction, guidance, and support to the HIM Department staff including assigned support staff. Conduct thorough chart audits for managed care requests ensuring the client’s service needs are supported within the client medical records for the specified audit period or review time frame. Provides requested chart audit documentation to Quality Management staff in a timely manner. Review and analyze medical records utilizing their knowledge of required documentation. Review provider trends and contracted government audit outcomes to identify improvement and opportunities. Maintain or exceed designated quality and production goals. Maintain employee/insured confidentiality. Communicate effectively with team members, departmental staff, and outside vendors as necessary to address issues and concerns. Conduct thorough chart audits on HIM staff as needed and provide reports to the manager as directed. Conduct follow-up audits to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions and continuous compliance. Maintain a high standard of quality in all audit activities. Ensure that audit processes are thorough, unbiased, and adhere to professional auditing standards. Demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills. Maintain a client service focus and exhibits professionalism, flexibility, dependability, a desire to learn, and commitment to excellence. Meet with clinic representatives to discuss issues and trends identified in audits. Assist and perform chart audits for program sites; create and distribute summary reports of findings on an ongoing basis. Provide support between Metrocare and Release of Information Vendor. Provide support with the process of subpoenas. Maintain security of health information systems and medical records. Identifies and reports compliance issues. Work closely with the Program Directors, site managers, and core process leader to address circumstances and problems to maintain efficient, supportive operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrate skills in ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: Associates Health Information Management (HIM); must be from an Accredited Health Information Management program. Required: Bachelor’s degree in health information management (HIM). Required: 3 years’ experience working with electronic records. Required: 1 - 2 years’ experience in the mental health/intellectual and developmental disability services setting. Required: General knowledge of HIPAA guidelines. Preferred: Experience working with Medicare & Medicaid regulatory requirements. Preferred: 2-4 years auditing experience. Preferred: Knowledge of appeals. Preferred: RHIT or RHIA certification. DRIVING REQUIRED: Yes MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic math skills required. Ability to work with reports and numbers. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. COMPUTER SKILLS: Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Ability to utilize Internet for resources. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain a Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment. Liability insurance is required if an employee will operate a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record. RHIT Certification and active membership with the American Health Information Management Association; and the Texas Health Information Association.Benefits Information and Perks:
