Ward Manager – Oncology
Location: The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Competitive salary plus excellent benefits
Leading an oncology service is about more than delivering excellent clinical care. It's about creating an environment where colleagues feel supported, patients feel safe and every interaction reflects the compassion and expertise that cancer care demands.
At The Harborne Hospital, you'll join a highly skilled oncology team delivering personalised care to patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. As Ward Manager, you'll provide visible leadership across the inpatient oncology service, supporting colleagues to deliver exceptional standards of care while helping to shape and develop one of the most progressive cancer services in the independent sector.
Working alongside leading consultants, specialist nurses and multidisciplinary teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence patient experience, support service development and contribute to the continued growth of our oncology offering. While the role is primarily focused on oncology services, there will be opportunities to work collaboratively across haematology pathways and support the Chemotherapy Day Unit as service needs require.

You'll lead by example as an experienced oncology practitioner, driving clinical excellence, supporting innovation and maintaining a strong focus on quality, governance and patient outcomes.
Working closely with the Oncology Matron and multidisciplinary colleagues, you'll help develop services, monitor performance and ensure the ward continues to provide an outstanding experience for patients and those important to them.
The role combines hands-on clinical leadership with responsibility for people management, service improvement, workforce planning and operational performance. You'll play a key role in developing colleagues, fostering a positive learning culture and ensuring the ward is equipped to meet the evolving needs of oncology patients.

- Strong knowledge of systemic anti-cancer therapies, oncology pathways and medicines management.
- A proven ability to lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams.
