Position Overview:
Ameresco is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in Framingham, MA. This role will support the accounting and financial reporting processes for assigned North American entities, including general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close activities. Responsibilities may be assigned across entities and accounting functions based on business needs, team priorities, and individual capacity. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with Corporate Accounting and other business partners to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, timely, and appropriately supported.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger Accounting and Reconciliations
- Prepare and record recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with complete and appropriate supporting documentation.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules for assigned general ledger accounts.
- Analyze account activity, investigate reconciling items and unusual balances, and resolve identified issues on a timely basis.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Month-End Close and Financial Reporting
- Perform assigned month-end close activities in accordance with the corporate close calendar.
- Compile and analyze financial data to support accurate internal and external reporting.
- Prepare account analyses and period-over-period explanations for management review.
- Communicate close status, open items, and potential reporting matters clearly and promptly.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Corporate Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Tax, and operational teams to address transactions, inquiries, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain open and timely communication with the manager and broader accounting team.
- Participate actively in meetings, provide meaningful status updates, ask questions when needed, and collaborate in person during scheduled office days.
- Contribute to cross-training, knowledge sharing, and the development of effective working relationships across the organization.
Compliance, Controls, and Audit Support
- Perform responsibilities in accordance with accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation standards.
- Assist in maintaining SOX compliance through timely performance of assigned controls and retention of supporting documentation.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to assigned entities and general ledger accounts.
- Identify accounting, process, or control issues and escalate them promptly with relevant supporting information.
Process Improvement and Additional Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of accounting processes.
- Contribute to accounting guidelines, desk procedures, training materials, and process documentation.
- Complete ad hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned.
- Perform other accounting-related responsibilities based on business needs and team priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum of 1 year of general accounting experience.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced hybrid environment.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), BlackLine, or similar accounting and reconciliation systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
- Commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and team success.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $64,000–$92,500 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
