Job Description:

The Environmental Supervisor – Water Specialist owns and manages CC&V’s groundwater and surface-water monitoring programs and leads the day-to-day implementation of the site water management program. The position is accountable for planning and executing compliant monitoring; supervising two environmental/water technicians; maintaining QAPPs, SOPs, sampling plans and schedules; assuring field and laboratory data quality; managing environmental data systems; evaluating results and trends; and converting monitoring data into defensible regulatory reports and management decisions.

The role also serves as the technical and organizational focal point for water-related environmental compliance, including discharge permits, groundwater and surface-water reporting, augmentation accounting, water balance and performance metrics, and technical studies. The position facilitates the Site Water Team and coordinates closely with Operations, Process, Engineering, Projects, laboratories, consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies to identify water risks, maintain compliance, resolve technical issues and continuously improve the site water program.

Day to Day:

Site Water Program Leadership:

  • Lead the site water management program and facilitate the Site Water Team, coordinating priorities, risks, actions and decisions across Environmental, Operations, Process, Engineering and Projects.

  • Implement and maintain the Water Management Standards and related water-management procedures and technical requirements.

  • Identify emerging water risks and compliance issues and coordinate investigation, corrective action, mitigation and communication with site leadership.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:

  • Manage water-related environmental compliance, including discharge permits and associated reporting requirements.

  • Manage groundwater and surface-water regulatory reporting, augmentation/SWSP accounting and reporting, and other recurring water compliance obligations.

  • Coordinate regulator interactions, inspections, data requests, permit modifications and the site-specific groundwater standards process; support wetlands/Section 404 and other water-related permitting needs.

Water Monitoring, Data Quality & Technical Systems:

  • Own and manage CC&V’s groundwater and surface-water monitoring programs, including monitoring networks, schedules, parameters, sampling requirements, field execution, laboratory coordination, data review and regulatory reporting.

  • Directly supervise two environmental technicians responsible for sampling, inspections, monitoring and field documentation.

  • Develop, maintain and implement QAPPs, SOPs, sampling plans and field procedures governing groundwater, surface-water and discharge monitoring.

  • Manage laboratory and analytical requirements and oversee QA/QC review of data.

  • Evaluate water quality data, anomalous results and trends; determine appropriate resampling, investigation, and escalation

  • Administer MonitorPro and supporting environmental-data workflows.

Water Accounting, Balance & Performance:

  • Support site water-balance and maintain water-accounting information used for operational planning, compliance and corporate reporting.

  • Coordinate water-use, water-intensity, Water Accounting Framework metrics, water supply, augmentation and replacement-water data.

  • Manage sitewide water supply contracts with third party suppliers.

  • Maintain dashboards and performance indicators communicating water supply, use, compliance status, risks and trends.

Technical Studies & Project Support:

  • Coordinate hydrogeologic investigations and water-related technical studies.

  • Provide water technical support for discharge permit activities, including discharge compliance, pump testing, treatment/pilot studies, permit modifications and related technical investigations.

  • Support mine projects, expansions and incident investigations by identifying water-related monitoring, permitting, design and compliance requirements and coordinating mitigation where needed.

Continuous Improvement & Communication:

  • Develop procedures, trackers, and tools that improve data quality, reporting efficiency, accountability and continuity.

  • Maintain schedules and obligation tracking for sampling, reports, inspections and water-related project milestones.

  • Prepare technical summaries and management updates and train site personnel on water-management, monitoring and compliance requirements.

Is This You??

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, environmental science or a closely related technical discipline.

  • 7+ years of experience in mining and environmental compliance involving water-quality monitoring, regulatory compliance, technical reporting, and field programs.

  • Familiarity with Colorado-specific water rights, permitting, and regulatory/legal frameworks is strongly preferred.

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with a collaborative and solution-oriented approach.

  • Working knowledge of groundwater and surface-water monitoring, water-quality sampling, environmental laboratory data, QA/QC principles and regulatory reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple recurring compliance obligations and projects with firm deadlines and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Microsoft Project, GoldSim, MonitoPro, Equis, or IsoMetrix is a plus.

Working Conditions & Environment:

  • This is an in-person, site-based position located at altitudes above 9,500 feet. Candidates must be able to work in a high-altitude environment and in varying weather conditions.

  • The schedule for this role is 4 days on/3 days off, 10-hour shifts, with the ability to provide occasional on-call availability.

  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs.

  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
