About Us

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. Description of Work

Help shape the future! The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking a Real Property Agent to join our team. The Real Property Agent is to directly oversee the processes for the acquisition and leasing of real property needs for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. This involves planning, oversight, and coordination with Senior Leadership beginning with the Procurement Director and culminating with the concurrence from the Commander’s Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the agency’s representative to the Council of State, safeguarding taxpayer resources by thoroughly evaluating real property needs, monitoring program activities, and preventing unnecessary expenditures.

  • Interprets laws and policies for agency staff and vendors and conducts continuous market research to stay informed on emerging technologies, real estate trends, and property availability that impact strategic decision making.

Recruitment Range: $57,983-$80,000  Annually

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. If you possess any of the following skills or qualifications, please include them in your application:

  • Knowledge of the acquisition and disposition of real property       

  • Knowledge of Federal, State State highway policies and procedures pertaining to right-of-way acquisition, removal of conflicts, and Federal participation in right-of-way costs; and of State laws pertaining to real estate conveyances, easements, contracts, and eminent domain and departmental policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of state and federal tax laws as they apply to real estate transactions

  • Knowledge of various appraisal methods

  • Skill in understanding highway plans and construction methods, and ability to explain them orally and in writing to property owners

  • Ability to write clear, concise documented reports

  • Ability to interact with all levels of government, management and public

  • Ability to interpret legal documents related to real estate transactions

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Typical work schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the development, appraisal or brokerage of commercial and/or industrial real estate; or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the development, appraisal or brokerage of commercial and/or industrial real estate; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
