Description
Responsibilities
- Evaluate changes to Accounting Standards Codifications (ASC), SEC regulations and regulatory reporting requirements, and communicate impact on the company’s financial reporting
- Analyze, research and conclude on proposed company initiatives and completed transactions, preparing complex memorandums summarizing the impact
- Liaise closely with external auditors and counsel on technical accounting and reporting issues, building strong collaborative relationships and open, transparent communication
- Manage and review the variable interest entities (consolidations) and current expected credit losses (CECL) processes performed by other departments
- Assist in review of SEC reporting requirements and participate in disclosure committee meetings
- Lead or assist in review of potential transactions, special projects and other ad-hoc requests
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation standards, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency
- Train and review the work of accounting team members
- Ensure SOX 404 compliance for areas of responsibility, including periodic updates to process narratives
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’ s degree in Accounting or a related field
- CPA preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and/or focused in real estate or the mortgage industry
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and technical accounting skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting the accounting treatment of complex transactions and disclosure guidance
- Experience in application of ASC 810 – Consolidations and/or ASC 326 – CECL a plus
- Flexibility and willingness to pivot to new priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on professional with excellent judgment, interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to coordinate projects within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple initiatives
- Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas
- Strong computer skills, with experience leveraging advanced Excel functions, financial systems, automation, and generative AI to organize and analyze data and enhance productivity
Arbor Realty Trust, Inc. offers a competitive base salary and discretionary bonus. The starting base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $175,000. The specific compensation that will be offered is based on an understanding of the hired candidates' qualifications at the time of hire. Employees are eligible for a discretionary bonus based on employee work performance reviewed during the course of the year. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
