Quality Engineer – Power Tools

 

OUR ROLE

Help shape safe, reliable and compliant power tools from concept to market. As our Quality Engineer – Power Tools, you will combine product compliance knowledge with hands-on quality engineering across new product development and sustaining activities. You will connect Product Development, Sourcing, Manufacturing, test laboratories, Regulatory Affairs and Quality, helping teams make sound, risk-based decisions throughout the product lifecycle.

This position is either based in Shanghai or Ningbo, China, within our Global Supply Chain function. The role reports to our Quality and Sustainability Manager and is a full-time position operating under a hybrid working model.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT FISKARS

Responsibilities

·     Guide product compliance for power tools and accessories across key markets, including UL and CSA requirements, CE marking, the EU Machinery Regulation or Directive, EMC, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, battery and transport requirements, California Proposition 65, and other applicable market requirements.

·     Coordinate certification and testing activities with external laboratories and certification bodies such as UL, Intertek, TÜV and SGS.

·     Maintain clear and accurate compliance documentation, including technical files, Declarations of Conformity, risk assessments, test reports and regulatory databases.

·     Contribute quality planning to product development and industrialization, including validation plans, reliability strategies and product safety or design reviews.

·     Lead or support failure investigations, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and non-conformance management.

·     Analyze warranty data, field claims, consumer complaints and test results to identify trends and recommend practical improvements.

·     Evaluate design, supplier and manufacturing changes for quality and compliance impact, and contribute to supplier quality reviews.

·     Represent Quality and Compliance in cross-functional teams, audits and regulatory inspections, while sharing guidance and training with relevant stakeholders.

 

WHO YOU ARE

You approach technical challenges with curiosity, sound judgement and attention to detail. You communicate clearly across disciplines and can balance safety, compliance, quality, cost and time-to-market considerations without losing sight of the customer.

Experience

·     A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, product or quality engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.

·     Relevant experience in product compliance, quality engineering, product safety or a related technical role. As a guide, this may have been gained over approximately 3–7 years, but we welcome candidates with comparable capability from different career paths.

·     Experience with power tools, electrical or battery-powered products, consumer products, or industrial equipment.

·     Practical experience working with certification bodies or external test laboratories and supporting new product development.

·     Working knowledge of product safety standards, certification processes, risk assessment, FMEA, root cause analysis and corrective actions.

·     Experience with product validation, reliability testing, manufacturing quality systems and ISO 9001 principles.

·     Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Knowledge of motors, gearboxes, switches, control systems, safety mechanisms or supplier quality is beneficial.

·     Clear communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across a global, cross-functional environment.
