Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Administrative Assistant 3, College of Hospitality / College of Engineering (FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE) [R0153037].

Remote one day/week

ROLE of the POSITION

This position serves administrative and business operations for two complex, interdisciplinary units: the Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering and the College of Hospitality’s Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives.

The Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering functions as a cross-disciplinary hub connecting programs, faculty, and resources across the University. Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives serve as a bridge between academia and industry, advancing research, partnerships, workforce development, and strategic initiatives within sport and hospitality.

Working with a high degree of independence, the position manages fiscal operations, academic scheduling, faculty assignments, procurement, personnel support, grants and contracts, accreditation documentation, events, and executive administration. The position also serves as a primary liaison among faculty, department leadership, Dean’s offices, central university units, students, and external partners. Success in the role requires sound judgment, discretion, strong institutional knowledge, and the ability to coordinate policies, priorities, and business practices across multiple colleges and departments.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE

The College of Hospitality’s focus on Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives serves as a bridge between academia and industry. Through innovative research, strategic partnerships, and experiential initiatives at the intersection of sport, hospitality, entertainment, technology, and community engagement, the initiative supports workforce development, industry innovation, and global impact.

The Harrah College of Hospitality is a world-renowned institution consistently ranked among the top five hospitality programs globally. It provides a comprehensive educational experience through a strong theoretical and practical foundation, offering a diverse array of undergraduate concentrations (including Gaming, Beverage, and Event Management) alongside master’s, doctoral, and dual-degree programs. Supported by a robust faculty of approximately 43 full-time members and serving nearly 1,500 total students as of Fall 2026, the College emphasizes real-world preparation through extensive industry partnerships, hosting major recruitment events, placing hundreds of interns annually, and matching students with expert alumni and mentors across leading global brands.  For more information about the Harrah College of Hospitality, please visit https://www.unlv.edu/hospitality

The Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering (AIE) serves as the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering’s agile innovation engine. Designed to disrupt traditional, siloed educational models, AIE reimagines engineering education by leveraging math and physics as tools rather than gatekeepers. Through responsive, hands-on curricula prioritizing student identity and confidence, the department supports educational access, workforce readiness, and real-world impact for diverse and historically underserved learners.

Functioning as a dynamic learning organization, AIE thrives on intentional experimentation, rapid learning, and transparent collaboration. The department provides an empowering academic home within the college, fostering a supportive, collegial environment where faculty and staff are deeply valued, represented, and positioned to do their best work. By linking departmental success directly to the flourishing of its people, AIE balances high-level educational innovation with an inclusive, people-centered culture.
