Description
The purpose of this classification is to perform maintenance for the Rocky Face Ridge Park facilities. Including but not limited to the mountain bike trail, the walking trail, cross-country trail, parking lot and other structures.
*OPEN UNTIL FILLED*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Works with Whitfield County Parks and Recreation staff for all park’s maintenance activities, to establish logistics, plans and objectives.
Perform trail building activities that conform to proven objectives and standards.
Manage equipment, tools, and logistics for Parks and Recreation’s crews.
Represent Whitfield County & the sport of mountain biking in a positive, professional manner.
Reads plans and drawings; performs layout, design, and fabrication for projects; orders materials and supplies; ensures that all projects are completed according to specifications; ensures that proper materials are used for each repair job, and that materials are correctly mixed and applied; prices parts for purchase orders.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals.
Performs general and preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing or cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Assists in monitoring inventory levels of equipment, tools, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates request for new or replacement materials; hauls materials, tools, and equipment.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, work orders, fuel logs, vehicle/equipment maintenance reports, equipment repair requests, timesheets, or other documents.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
May serve on call after hours for emergencies.
Will be required to operate some or all of the following: backhoe, track/wheel loaders, dozers, dump truck, service truck, forklift, chipper, hay blower, skid steer, shovel, hand broom, string line, concrete saw, concrete finishing tools, mechanic’s tools, jack hammers, rotary hammers, mowers, weed-eaters, leveling devices, two-way radio, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Performs other Parks and Recreation duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience of related maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONSStrong trail building skills and a keen understanding of sustainable techniques as outlined by
the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Excavator and chainsaw operation experience and skills a must.
Excellent interpersonal skills; outgoing, motivating, and professional.
Ability to work with minimal oversight.
A high level of strength is not necessary, but endurance and fitness are critical.
Tolerance for discomfort. Work happens even in cold and wet weather and the ability to maintain team spirit in those conditions is important.
GPS/GIS Mapping software experience a plus.
