The Role
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the integrity of Capital A Berhad's financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial governance. The role ensures the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, maintains a robust internal control environment, and supports the Group's financial stewardship as a public listed company. Working closely with the Group CFO and key stakeholders, the Financial Controller will drive financial excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely completion of statutory reporting, Bursa Malaysia reporting requirements, annual reports and regulatory submissions.
- Oversee the Group's financial closing process to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness of reporting.
- Manage the external audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulators and relevant authorities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial reporting standards, taxation requirements and statutory obligations.
- Strengthen and maintain effective financial controls, governance practices and accounting policies across the Group.
- Review and enhance financial processes, internal controls and reporting frameworks to improve operational efficiency and mitigate financial risks.
- Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights and recommendations that support informed business decisions.
- Support the Group CFO in Board, Audit Committee and management reporting requirements.
- Lead, coach and develop the finance team while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance.
- Support strategic initiatives, corporate exercises and other finance-related projects as required.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting and financial reporting.
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or equivalent leadership role.
- Mandatory experience in a public listed company environment.
- Prior external audit experience with a recognised audit firm is required.
- Strong experience managing statutory reporting, financial governance, external audits and regulatory compliance.
- Experience leading finance teams and driving finance transformation or process improvement initiatives will be an advantage.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
Certifications
- Mandatory member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g. Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), or equivalent) is highly preferred.
