Description
Overview
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Product Manager. In this role, you will support the intake, prioritization, requirements, and adoption of business intelligence products, dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics capabilities delivered by the Data & Analytics organization. You will serve as the voice of the customer for BI products, translating business requests, user needs, feedback, and ideas into clear requirements and working with delivery teams to turn them into practical BI solutions. You will help manage backlog input, support delivery prioritization, and help ensure BI products deliver measurable business value within objectives established by Data & Analytics leadership. The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of how organizations use data with deep familiarity with modern BI platforms and is equally comfortable working with stakeholders, defining product needs, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the business.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the BI product roadmap by aligning customer priorities with enterprise and departmental objectives established by Data & Analytics leadership.
- Partner with the Reporting Director to ensure business needs are clearly defined, prioritized, and communicated, while supporting the successful delivery and adoption of reporting and analytics solutions.
- Partner with business stakeholders across the organization to gather, analyze, and prioritize their reporting and analytics requirements.
- Maintain backlog inputs for BI products, translating business needs into clear user stories and acceptance criteria for the delivery team.
- Work with delivery teams to use agile prototyping approaches to turn user needs and business ideas into early product concepts, gather feedback quickly, and refine BI products before wider delivery.
- Document and maintain business requirements, success criteria, and user experience expectations for approved BI products and capabilities, ensuring each product is useful, trusted, and adopted by the business.
- Work with data governance and data owners to understand the level of trust, quality, and readiness of BI data sources, and clearly communicate that confidence level to business users.
- Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and BI delivery teams, consolidating user needs, feedback, pain points, and adoption insights to support prioritization decisions and product improvements.
- Track and report on agreed-upon KPIs for BI product usage, performance, and business value, providing insights to Data & Analytics leadership and delivery teams to inform prioritization, adoption efforts, and product improvements.
- Support initiatives that promote appropriate use of both governed reporting and self-service analytics capabilities.
- Support adoption of BI products and analytics capabilities through stakeholder engagement, communication, and user enablement.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or BI/Analytics lead, ideally within a business intelligence or data function.
- Strong understanding of business intelligence concepts, including data modeling, reporting, dashboards, and self-service analytics.
- Hands-on familiarity with leading BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into delivered analytics products.
- Experience supporting backlog prioritization and roadmap alignment, ideally within an Agile delivery environment.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage both business and technical audiences.
- A solid understanding of data governance, data quality, and how to communicate the reliability and appropriate use of BI products to business audiences.
- Experience defining and tracking product success metrics, including product adoption and usage.
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to connect analytics products to tangible business value.
- Experience with the Microsoft data stack (Power BI and Microsoft Fabric) is an advantage.
