At NewDay, data powers everything we do. We're looking for a Data Operations Engineer to join our growing data team and play a critical role in ensuring our data platforms, pipelines and processes operate seamlessly every day.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, investigating incidents, improving platform stability, and working with modern cloud and big data technologies.
You'll be at the heart of our data ecosystem, helping to keep business-critical data products running while driving continuous improvements across our estate.
What you'll be doing
As a key member of the team, you'll:
Monitor and support business-critical data pipelines and ensure data is refreshed accurately and on time.
Investigate, respond to and resolve production incidents, minimising impact and restoring service quickly.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and work with engineers to implement permanent fixes.
Build a deep understanding of our data infrastructure, tooling and operational processes.
Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance and efficiency across our data platforms.
Develop monitoring, alerting and data quality controls to proactively detect issues before they impact users.
Work within an Agile environment, contributing to development and CI/CD release processes.
Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles and operational runbooks.
Act as a technical point of contact for data pipeline and cloud platform topics.
Support and mentor junior team members, sharing expertise and best practices.
What we're looking for
You'll bring a blend of technical expertise and a passion for continuous improvement.
Essential Experience
Experience supporting and maintaining enterprise data solutions, including ETL processes and data refresh activities.
Strong experience with Python.
Experience working with big data and data integration technologies such as Spark and Kafka.
Hands-on experience with AWS, including services such as Athena, Glue, EMR, Step Functions and CloudWatch.
Experience working with Snowflake and dbt.
Knowledge of CI/CD practices and deployment pipelines.
Experience managing and resolving IT incidents within a structured incident management framework.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data solutions.
Understanding of event-driven or streaming architectures.
Nice to have
Experience with additional ETL technologies.
Previous ownership of data platform monitoring and operational improvements.
Exposure to Grafana.
Knowledge of Scala.
