Strata Solicitors, Gallagher Bassett's in-house law firm, is seeking a Senior Associate to join our growing Public Sector Litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Solicitor or FCILEX professional to manage a complex caseload of litigated defendant motor claims while acting as a technical mentor and referral point for junior colleagues.
In this role, you'll work closely with the Litigation Claims Manager and senior leadership team, handling claims from issue through to trial and helping to drive operational excellence, client service delivery, and profitability.
How you'll make an impact
- Managing a caseload of litigated defendant motor claims on behalf of public sector clients from issue through to trial.
- Handling a broad range of claims including:
- Personal Injury
- Property Damage
- Credit Hire
- Low Velocity Impact (LVI)
- Fraud-related matters
- Assessing liability and setting appropriate reserves in line with client service level agreements and KPIs.
- Investigating the merits of third-party claims and developing effective defence strategies.
- Negotiating settlements with third parties, insurers and solicitors to achieve the best possible client outcomes.
- Valuing General and Special Damages.
- Applying the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant case law to progress claims effectively.
- Ensuring compliance with office procedures, client service standards and performance metrics.
- Maintaining accurate and complete data on the case management system.
- Supervising and delegating work to Claims Administration Assistants where appropriate.
- Supporting the Litigation Claims Manager and senior leadership team on complex matters and wider operational initiatives.
- Acting as a technical mentor and point of escalation for junior members of the litigation team.
- Ensuring compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules and financial handling procedures.
About you
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor or qualified FCILEX.
- Vast litigation experience.
- Strong experience handling Road Traffic Accident (RTA) litigation.
- Experience managing defendant claims within an insurer, legal practice, TPA, or claims environment.
- Proven ability to work independently while managing a busy caseload.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrable self-motivation, initiative and problem-solving ability.
- Experience mentoring, coaching or acting as a referral point for junior colleagues.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience handling claims on behalf of public sector clients.
- Experience dealing with complex or high-value motor litigation.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
