About Northland Concrete & Masonry
Northland Concrete & Masonry (NCM) is a leading commercial concrete and masonry contractor specializing in complex commercial, industrial, institutional, and large-scale construction projects. Our work includes structural concrete, foundations, slabs, formwork, masonry, and specialty scopes.
As a Carpenter Foreman, you will lead and coordinate concrete carpentry crews in the field to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to NCM's quality standards. You will provide daily direction to field personnel while working closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and other trades to successfully execute NCM's concrete scopes.
Carpenter Foreman Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead and supervise concrete carpenters, apprentices, laborers, and other field personnel.
- Provide clear daily direction and assignments based on project priorities, manpower, and schedule requirements.
- Plan daily and weekly work activities to maintain productivity and project schedules.
- Monitor crew productivity and adjust assignments as needed.
- Coordinate closely with NCM Superintendents and Project Managers regarding manpower, production, schedule, materials, and project needs.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and productive work environment.
- Mentor and develop less-experienced employees and apprentices.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, quality craftsmanship, and safety.
Concrete Carpentry & Formwork
- Perform and oversee commercial concrete carpentry and formwork activities.
- Build, assemble, install, and remove concrete forms for foundations, footings, walls, columns, beams, slabs, stairs, and other structural concrete elements.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, details, elevations, and schedules.
- Perform accurate layout and verify dimensions, elevations, locations, and alignment.
- Install formwork, embeds, sleeves, blockouts, construction joints, and other components as required.
- Assist with reinforcing steel placement and coordination as needed.
- Verify forms are properly constructed, braced, aligned, plumb, level, and ready for concrete placement.
- Coordinate concrete placement activities with Superintendents, finishers, laborers, and other field personnel.
- Monitor production and ensure work is progressing according to project requirements.
Safety
- Lead by example and promote a strong safety culture on the jobsite.
- Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings and jobsite orientations as required.
- Ensure employees follow OSHA requirements, NCM safety policies, and project-specific safety procedures.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment, tools, equipment, scaffolding, ladders, and fall protection.
- Communicate safety concerns immediately to the Superintendent and project leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Review project schedules and plan upcoming carpentry and concrete activities.
- Coordinate daily work with NCM Superintendents and other trades.
- Communicate manpower requirements and upcoming material and equipment needs.
- Coordinate deliveries, material staging, equipment, forms, and other resources needed for the work.
- Monitor project sequencing and identify potential delays before they impact the schedule.
- Coordinate NCM's work with general contractors and other subcontractors when required.
- Ensure crews have the necessary drawings, materials, tools, equipment, and information to perform their work.
Quality Control
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure concrete carpentry work is completed correctly the first time.
- Inspect formwork for dimensions, elevations, alignment, plumb, level, bracing, and overall quality.
- Verify work is constructed according to project plans, specifications, and approved details.
- Identify and communicate potential quality or constructability issues before concrete placement.
- Assist with resolving field issues and coordinating corrections.
- Support punch list and project closeout activities as needed.
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain consistent communication with Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field leadership.
- Communicate daily progress, manpower, production, material needs, schedule concerns, and field issues.
- Report changes in scope, additional work, or unexpected field conditions to project leadership.
- Assist with documenting time-and-material work and potential change order opportunities.
- Participate in project meetings and coordination discussions as requested.
- Maintain accurate daily records and documentation as required by NCM and the project.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of commercial concrete carpentry experience, with previous Foreman or Lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of commercial concrete construction and formwork.
- Experience with foundations, footings, walls, columns, beams, slabs, stairs, and other structural concrete work.
- Strong understanding of concrete formwork, layout, bracing, stripping, and installation methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, elevations, and details.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a field crew.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, Superintendents, Project Managers, general contractors, and other trades.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with project leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working in a union construction environment preferred.
- Commitment to quality craftsmanship, productivity, teamwork, and safety.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
