Description
The Opportunity
At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Commercial Manager to join the Energy Solutions team on a permanent full-time basis. Brisbane is the preferred location, although Sydney or Melbourne may be considered for the right candidate.
Reporting to the Head of Commercial Partnerships, you will turn customer and market insights into new and renewed transportation services and revenue. You will lead complex negotiations, manage key accounts and support growth projects and regulatory responses.
We’re looking for a commercially minded energy professional who can connect customer needs with APA’s infrastructure and deliver clear, executable commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and close complex, high-value commercial negotiations within approved financial and strategic parameters, balancing customer needs with APA’s strategic and financial objectives.
- Lead key account management for priority customers, strengthening relationships, aligning commercial and operational touchpoints and identifying opportunities for sustainable revenue growth.
- Identify and secure transportation opportunities and develop customer-led services, commercial models, pricing structures and portfolio solutions aligned with APA’s strategy and asset capabilities.
- Partner with Business Development and Strategy on new asset builds, acquisitions and growth projects, providing market assessment, commercial modelling, due diligence, deal structuring and support through internal approvals and closure.
- Develop market intelligence and translate market, customer and policy developments into clear commercial advice, strategy, regulatory submissions and advocacy with regulators, government departments and industry bodies.
- Partner across Legal, BD, Strategy, Finance and Operations to negotiate contracts, manage commercial and contractual risk, maintain alignment with APA’s governance and regulatory frameworks and represent APA with key external stakeholders.
Your background
- You will bring demonstrated experience in commercial, marketing, origination, business development, portfolio management or corporate development within energy, infrastructure or another complex, asset-intensive sector. If you have upstream gas experience, this would be highly regarded.
- You have strong commercial judgement and a track record of identifying opportunities, negotiating complex multi-party arrangements and closing contracts that deliver strategic and financial outcomes.
- You demonstrate strong key account management capability, including managing customer, counterparty or joint venture relationships and optimising value across contractual or portfolio positions.
- You bring experience in policy and advocacy, including preparing regulatory submissions and engaging with regulators, government departments and industry bodies to shape outcomes.
- You have strong financial, analytical and market intelligence capability, with experience in commercial modelling, pricing, due diligence and deal structuring for new asset builds, acquisitions or growth projects.
- You are an effective communicator and stakeholder manager, able to align diverse priorities, influence at all levels and deliver outcomes within a complex matrix environment.
