Position Overview

POWERHOUSE is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Construction to expand, lead, and oversee large-scale commercial construction projects across its portfolio. This executive will be responsible for project execution, financial performance, operational efficiency, and team leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. We’re looking for a forward-thinking leader who is excited to make their mark on a growing company by shaping its construction operations, driving strategic growth, and building the processes and teams that will support its long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construction Operations & Executive Leadership: Lead and oversee the construction portfolio, providing strategic direction and accountability for project delivery, operational performance, profitability, and overall execution.
  • Project Oversight: Direct large-scale projects, overseeing project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, execution, safety and compliance, and closeout.
  • Financial & Business Performance: Establish and monitor project budgets, forecasts, margins, cash flow, and financial performance. Identify risks, manage cost exposure, and implement strategies to protect profitability.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop project executives, project managers, superintendents, and other construction personnel. Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards across teams.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other key stakeholders. Serve as an executive point of contact for critical project matters and escalations.
  • Scheduling & Execution: Ensure projects are properly resourced and executed according to established schedules, contractual requirements, and client expectations. Proactively address delays, coordination challenges, and resource constraints.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance: Champion a culture of safety, quality, and accountability. Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, contractual requirements, site-specific safety standards, and regulatory obligations.
  • Risk Management & Problem Resolution: Identify and mitigate project risks related to cost, schedule, scope, labor, subcontractor performance, and compliance. Lead resolution of complex construction challenges and contractual issues.
  • Process Improvement & Standardization: Develop and implement consistent construction processes, reporting standards, project controls, and performance metrics to improve efficiency, predictability, and execution across the portfolio.
  • Business Growth & Strategic Planning: Partner with executive leadership to support business development, evaluate project opportunities, assess operational capacity, and develop strategies for sustainable growth.
  • Preconstruction & Project Handoffs: Provide oversight during estimating, constructability reviews, scope development, scheduling, procurement planning, and transition from preconstruction to field execution.
  • Executive Reporting: Communicate portfolio performance, financial results, project risks, staffing needs, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Significant progressive experience in commercial construction, with a demonstrated record of success leading large and complex construction projects.
  • Required experience overseeing large commercial, industrial, or government remodel and renovation projects valued between $5 million and $75 million per project.
  • Proven experience in a senior construction leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining financial, schedule, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Strong understanding of construction estimating, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, procurement, change orders, subcontractor management, and project closeout.
  • Experience leading and developing project management and field operations teams.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including budget management, forecasting, cost controls, and project profitability.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building systems, applicable codes, safety regulations, and quality control practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and executive decision-making skills.
  • Ability to identify operational challenges, make sound business decisions, and drive accountability across teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Ground-up construction experience is preferred but not required.

Key Success Measures

  • Consistent delivery of projects within approved budgets and schedules.
  • Strong project margins, accurate forecasting, and effective cost control.
  • High standards of safety, workmanship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective leadership, development, and retention of construction personnel.
  • Strong client relationships, satisfaction, and repeat business.
  • Improved consistency, accountability, and efficiency across the construction portfolio.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a construction executive who can operate at both the strategic and project levels—someone who understands the complexities of large-scale commercial renovations, knows how to lead high-performing teams, and takes ownership of results. The ideal candidate is a decisive leader, strong relationship builder, and operational problem-solver who can help POWERHOUSE deliver exceptional construction outcomes while supporting the company's continued growth.
