Financial & Regulatory Reporting Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Financial & Regulatory Reporting Specialist to join Thunes in Barcelona. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong regulatory reporting experience within banking, payments, fintech or another regulated financial services environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the timely, accurate and well-controlled production of financial, regulatory and safeguarding reporting, while supporting regulatory change, reporting improvements and the continued strengthening of the finance control environment.
What you’ll be doing
• Prepare, review and support the submission of financial, regulatory and statistical returns to relevant regulatory authorities.
• Take ownership of safeguarding reporting, including reconciliation and monitoring of safeguarded client funds and investigation of breaks, discrepancies and movements.
• Ensure safeguarding and regulatory reporting obligations are completed accurately, reconciled appropriately and delivered within required deadlines.
• Perform detailed reconciliations across bank accounts, ledgers, payment flows and reporting systems.
• Investigate and explain material movements, variances, exceptions and reporting anomalies.
• Maintain robust evidence, documentation and audit trails supporting regulatory and safeguarding reporting.
• Act as a subject matter expert on financial, regulatory and safeguarding reporting requirements, providing guidance to Finance and wider business stakeholders.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess the impact of new or amended reporting requirements on the business.
• Support regulatory reporting systems, including maintenance, enhancements, data validation, UAT and testing.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, data quality and automation.
• Develop and maintain reporting procedures, control frameworks and operating documentation.
• Support internal and external audit requests and provide clear explanations and supporting evidence where required.
• Work closely with Finance, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Treasury, Technology and senior stakeholders.
• Contribute to a strong culture of financial control, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
What we are looking for
• Experience in financial and regulatory reporting within banking, payments, fintech or another regulated financial institution.
• Practical understanding of safeguarding requirements, safeguarded client funds and related reconciliation and reporting processes.
• Experience preparing, reviewing or validating regulatory returns.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations and reporting governance.
• Ability to analyse large datasets and investigate discrepancies, breaks and unusual movements.
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with complex financial data.
• Experience with regulatory reporting, finance or accounting systems.
• Experience supporting regulatory change, system enhancements, UAT or reporting automation.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively to demanding regulatory deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders across Finance and the wider business.
• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Qualified Accountant or equivalent professional qualification is desirable but not essential.
