Job Summary:The Director of Rooms controls the hotel front office operations and is responsible for the general administration and operation of the housekeeping department (Rooms, Floors, Public Areas) at The Ranch and the Inn. Works closely and professionally with the General Manager, Executive Director of Operations, Directors, suppliers, and outside contractors.

Responsibilities
- Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.
- Direct all departments within the Rooms Department according to established policies and procedures, guest jservice standards, financial plans, and company directives.
- Set and maintain departmental standards for productivity, cleanliness, ordering, cost control, training, safety, equipment uses, and especially guest service.
- Administer all company and department policies, design department policies and procedures for each of the departments in the Rooms Department and ensure compliance of such in each department.
- Work with Rooms Department management in the selection, assigning, training and development of Rooms Department staff.
- Ensure that Kronos is monitored daily for entire department ensuring staff breaks are taken in accordance with California state laws.
- Ensure the continual training of staff through attendance in training and development classes.
- Conduct routine inspections of all assigned areas of responsibility including guestrooms, front desk operations, laundry, camper/RV services, and public areas including swimming pool, recreation areas and all public restrooms.
- Ensure that guest and employee safety standards are applied and enforced, particularly guestroom key control, walkways, and lighting.
- Submit and administer annual financial plan for the Rooms Department.
- Ensure that regular daily synchronization of PMS, ORS, and OTA’s is being accomplished.
- Complete annual reviews for all salaried exempt management personnel in the department, as well as establish goals and objectives for each manager.
- Approve all change of status for department personnel and approve all annual reviews for hourly and salaried non-exempt personnel in the department.
- Maintain coordination and communication with other departments affected by Rooms such as Sales, Food & Beverage, Maintenance and Accounting.
- Communicate staffing needs, including management staff, with Human Resources and the Recruiter
- Submit annual capital proposals as well as other purchase requests for non-capitalized items.
- Whenever necessary handle guest concerns, complaints with tact, courteousness, and professionalism. When necessary, approve guest refunds.
- Project a commitment to Oasis at Death Valley environmental policies.
- Act as property Director on Duty as assigned.
- Respond and participate during emergencies.
- Administer corrective actions and improvement plans to staff members that are not in compliance with Oasis at Death Valley policies, procedures and standards.
- Facilitate and document annual departmental refresher trainings with all employees, to include “Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Awareness” and “Emergency Action Plan procedures.”
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum four years Rooms Management experience in a 200 room or higher full service hotel.
- Possess financial skills necessary to plan, budget and control the annual financial plan.
- Prior experience as a Rooms Manager, Director of Front Office, or Operations Manager, Front Office Manager.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally interact with guests, clients, and employees.
- Previous experience with front desk operating systems, telecommunication systems, ordering systems.
- Advanced computer skills to quickly learn POS systems and other front office systems.
- Ability to assist Executive Director of Operations, Director of Sales & Marketing and General Manager with development and implementation of strategies that will result in increased occupancy and rate.
- Possess valid Driver’s License and comply with the Oasis at Death Valley Company Vehicle Policy.
- Knowledge of and implementation of AAA 3 and 4 Diamond standards.
- Working knowledge of Front Office and Housekeeping operations.
- Working knowledge of OTA websites including Expedia and Booking.com.
- Experience with Opera preferred
Physical Requirements include:
- Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, using eye/hand coordination, handling, wrist motion.
- Frequently walk and lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally sit, handle, reach outward, reach above shoulder, squat or kneel, lift/carry and push or pull up to 100lbs.
- Will be required to stand long periods of time and to occasionally walk up flights of stairs.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
