Our client is an enterprise organization undertaking a broader IT modernization and infrastructure planning initiative. As part of this effort, they need a clear, validated picture of their application landscape โ how systems, infrastructure, and business functions connect โ before making decisions about future migrations or architectural changes.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced IT Business Analyst to support an application mapping and IT environment assessment project. The primary objective of this engagement is to develop a clear understanding of the client's application landscape, including applications, business functions, infrastructure, dependencies, integrations, and key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will gather information from technical and business stakeholders, analyze application relationships and dependencies, and produce documentation that can support future infrastructure and migration planning.
Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews and discovery sessions with business and technical stakeholders.
- Identify and document the client's application portfolio.
- Map applications to business functions, departments, and key business processes.
- Document application owners, users, criticality, technology platforms, and hosting environments.
- Identify dependencies between applications, infrastructure, databases, services, and integrations.
- Map application-to-application and application-to-infrastructure relationships.
- Identify upstream and downstream dependencies that could impact future infrastructure changes or migrations.
- Gather and validate information from multiple sources, including stakeholders, existing documentation, and technical teams.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and missing information within the current application inventory.
- Develop application inventories, dependency maps, and supporting documentation.
- Help assess application criticality, business impact, and migration considerations.
- Work closely with infrastructure, architecture, and business teams to validate findings.
- Translate technical information into clear documentation that can be understood by both technical and business stakeholders.
- Contribute to a final assessment and recommendations for future application and infrastructure planning.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as an IT Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Application Analyst, or similar role.
- Experience with application discovery, application portfolio management, or dependency mapping.
- Strong understanding of enterprise applications, infrastructure, databases, integrations, and IT environments.
- Experience gathering requirements and conducting discovery interviews with technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to understand and document complex application dependencies and relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent documentation and process-mapping skills.
- Experience creating application inventories, dependency maps, process flows, or similar artifacts.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
