Vice President, Finance and IT

For Water Street Mission (WSM) to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. Job Summary: Serve in an executive capacity as part of the WSM Leadership Team. Lead the Finance and into growth in quality and effectiveness in its areas of mission, and in relevant objectives in the Strategic Plan. Supervise the ministries of Donor Processing and Finance.

• Work in full coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify, report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests

• Embody, encourage and cultivate WSM culture, purpose, mission and values in words and actions

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all finance, accounting, donor processing, payroll, accounts payable and IT functions

• Partner with the President and Leadership Team to develop organizational strategy, annual budgets, long-range financial plans, and operational initiatives.

• Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning for the organization.

• Direct all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.

• Lead the annual financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and organizational compliance with GAAP, IRS, ECFA, state regulations, and other applicable requirements.

• Ensure effective internal controls, financial policies, systems, and processes that promote accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence.

• Oversee cash management, investment monitoring, insurance, employee benefits, and organizational risk management.

• Oversee SPE/EITC reporting and compliance processes in collaboration with Advancement and Wonder Academy.

• Provide executive oversight of donor financial operations, including gift processing, bequests, securities, charitable gift annuities, and related financial reporting.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions, auditors, consultants, technology partners, and other external stakeholders.

• Establish, monitor, and report key financial and operational performance metrics.

• Foster collaboration across departments to support organizational priorities and ministry objectives.

• Oversee the implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures that will provide timely, accurate, and thorough reports on the overall operating conditions of WSM.

• Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate Finance and IT staff while cultivating a Christ-centered, high-performing team culture.

• Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and Operations Leadership Team, representing Finance, Operations and IT in organizational planning and decision-making.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision

• Directly supervise the Controller, Finance Specialist, Donation Processing Specialist, and Director of IT.

• Provide interim leadership for vacant positions within the division until a permanent replacement is identified.

• Foster the spiritual, professional, and leadership development of departmental staff in partnership with the VP of People and Culture.

• Partner with Leadership in annual performance evaluations, merit recommendations, succession planning, and volunteer engagement.

Education and Experience:

• Four years of financial leadership required.

• Seven years of work in accounting required.

• Experience with non-profit accounting and fiscal audits preferred.

• CPA license is preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of GAAP and ECFA Standards preferred.

• Familiarity with Sage and Bill.com accounting software preferred.

• Experience growing relationships with community partners and representing an organization to the public.
