What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations – Parks, the Supervisor, Operations - Parks is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and supervision of the Parks division including:

  • Supervising, planning and delivering the day-to-day operation;
  • Providing input to the development of long-term resource needs and strategic plans;
  • Providing strong leadership, advice and guidance to staff
  • Maintaining a visible and active presence in the field to observe work practices, reinforce safety and service expectations, coach employees, and ensure consistent accountability for operational results;
  • Providing dedicated oversight by establishing clear expectations, monitoring performance and productivity, addressing issues promptly, and leading continuous operational improvements.
  • Recruitment, training, personnel development and labour relations;
  • Supervision, scheduling and oversight of work performed by staff and contractors;
  • Preparation of reports and correspondence in response to operational issues;
  • Ensure that the required staff, equipment and materials are available;
  • Preparation, evaluation and administration of various tenders/quotations;
  • Ensure compliance, including training and documentation, with technical regulations and legislation, including but not limited to the Occupational Health & Safety and the Highway Traffic Act.;
  • Developing, implementing and training of new and existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensuring compliance and documentation as applicable, adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Assisting the Manager with the preparation and monitoring of the capital and operating budgets;
  • Effectively respond to general requests, concerns and complaints from residents, the public, user groups, senior staff, and other departments; and,
  • Participation in on-call responsibilities and responding to after-hours emergencies, storm events and winter operations
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Who You Are

Our Operational Services team is seeking a strong leader who can motivate, guide and hold staff accountable for results. You lead and supervise effectively in a complex, unionized environment and collaborate to resolve competing priorities while considering diverse perspectives.


You combine practical knowledge and experience with strong communication and interpersonal skills to support staff and stakeholders. You exercise tact, diplomacy and sound judgment when working with diverse partners and addressing sensitive matters.


You solve problems creatively by gathering and assessing relevant information. A skilled negotiator, you support your team, strengthen communication, ease tensions and resolve issues while adapting effectively to uncertainty and changing priorities.


What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you will possess:

  • A diploma or degree in a parks-related discipline;
  • At least five years of experience in parks maintenance or operations, including three years of supervisory experience and exposure to municipal winter operations;
  • Strong management, leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills, preferably gained in a unionized environment;
  • Strong analytical, research, reasoning and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent project management, organizational and prioritization skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal government and applicable legislation;
  • Strong financial and budget management skills;
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with staff, consultants and the public;
  • The ability to work tactfully and diplomatically with a broad range of partners;
  • The ability to organize and prioritize competing workloads, meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure;
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings and weekends, as required;
  • A valid Class G driver’s licence maintained in good standing.

Salary Range/Hourly rate:

$127,432.00 - $144,809.00

Hybrid information:

Frontline

Hours:

Monday to Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (forty hours per week). Flex and additional hours may be required in order to respond to emergency situations and/or assist with winter control operations.
