This is a hands-on engineering role for a technically strong professional who understands tool and die design, GD&T, CAD, machining, and manufacturing processes and enjoys turning engineering challenges into practical, production-ready solutions.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, troubleshooting, and improving production tooling - including dies, molds, fixtures, gauges, material handling equipment, and specialized manufacturing tooling.
Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, suppliers, and customers, you will help ensure tooling delivers the quality, reliability, efficiency, and cost performance required in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop specialized tooling, dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and related production equipment using SolidWorks 3D CAD
- Analyze product designs and customer requirements to determine tooling needs and manufacturing feasibility
- Oversee tooling assembly, testing, validation, launch, and implementation
- Troubleshoot tooling, mechanical, electrical, and process issues and implement effective corrective actions
- Improve existing tooling to increase quality, productivity, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Apply GD&T and engineering principles to ensure tooling meets design specifications and quality requirements
- Conduct root-cause analysis of tooling failures and develop preventive solutions
- Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs, maintenance procedures, tooling documentation, and other technical records
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations during new product launches, process changes, and engineering improvements
- Manage tooling requirements, maintenance schedules, spare tooling, and inventory
- Work directly with tooling and engineering suppliers, providing design direction, resolving issues, and monitoring timelines
- Participate in sales and quoting reviews to identify technical risks and ensure customer requirements are properly addressed
- Develop project plans for capital projects and, when required, serve as the primary project manager
- Provide hands-on technical support to electricians, mechanics, and operations personnel in diagnosing and resolving manufacturing issues
- Assist in developing long-term capital improvement plans focused on equipment upgrades, process improvements, and cost savings
- Research new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods to improve tooling performance
- Lead engineering and process improvement studies that deliver measurable improvements
- Support cost analysis and quoting activities, including developing methods to predict production, component, tooling, fixture, design, and assembly costs
- Organize and maintain engineering records, drawings, designs, and technical documentation
- Travel to customers and suppliers, including locations outside the United States, as required
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Significant experience in Tool & Die, including tooling design
- Deep, comprehensive understanding of GD&T is required
- Strong CAD/CAM experience, particularly SolidWorks 3D
- In-depth knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of different metals and their characteristics, or the ability to independently research and develop that knowledge
- Experience with project management and capital projects
- Experience with integration activities and new product/process launches
- Strong analytical, planning, scheduling, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Project
- A hands-on approach and willingness to get directly involved in solving production and tooling challenges
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Valid passport or ability to obtain one
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on manufacturing performance. You will be trusted with meaningful engineering challenges, capital projects, tooling improvements, new product launches, supplier relationships, and opportunities to improve the way the plant operates.
