Job Description:

 

JOB SUMMARY:  The primary focus of the position is responsibility for the receiving, processing and delivery of goods, central stores orders, and the preparation of outgoing shipments.  Supports mail operations and the graphics center as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Unload, receive, inspect, scan and provide timely delivery of incoming supplier freight and packages from (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, others).  Reject damaged shipments when appropriate.
• Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders for shortages or discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records of goods and equipment received to support the University Procurement and Accounts Payable functions.  Process receipts in Workday as a critical step in the three-way match process.  Collaborate with Purchasing and other departments regarding issues associated with the receipt and shipment of goods.
• Utilize barcode scanning and package tracking systems to support chain of custody tracking from receipt to final delivery.
• Provide appropriate prioritization for expedited deliveries.
• Obtain signatures for deliveries when required.
• Provide a high level of customer service for the University community.
• Initiate damage claims and resolve any discrepancies with carriers/suppliers.
• Investigate and resolve errors, omissions, missing shipments and related issues.
• Prepare outbound shipments and required documentation, including any return shipments for damaged or incorrect items.
• Receive, process and deliver orders for Central Stores items.  Monitor inventory and place orders to replenish stock as needed.
• Provide operational reports and data regarding logistics operations activity to the Graphics Center and Logistics Manager or other members of university administration as requested.
• Load and unload delivery vehicles using appropriate equipment.
• Train student employees in departmental procedures and use of technology
• Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area.
• Conduct physical inventory of supplies as required
• Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels for departmental supplies.
• Assist with mail operations, graphics center and surplus property operations as requested
• Performs related duties in Graphics Center, Logistics, or Surplus Property as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Direct supervision is received from the Graphics Center and Logistics Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Coordinate the daily work of student employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in receiving, shipping, delivery, logistics, or warehouse operations is preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements of SVSU Vehicle Policy 3.5-1
• Ability to use computerized record keeping, package tracking, purchasing and inventory control systems.
• Demonstrated Personal computer skills using email, word processing and spreadsheet applications (MS Office) and the ability to navigate and access information on computer systems and web resources.
• Ability to operate forklift and receive forklift certification within 90 days of hire.
• Possesses strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, plus the ability to exemplify an attitude of cooperation within and outside the department, including the ability to work well within a diverse campus community.
• Demonstrated ability to always communicate in a professional manner.
• Familiarity of US Postal, UPS, Federal Express, and other common carrier rules and regulations
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high volume work environment where physical exertion is part of the normal work routine.
• Ability to operate pallet jack, dolly, hand truck and similar equipment.
• Ability to work alone or as a team member and perform duties efficiently.
• Ability to follow and apply appropriate safety procedures.
• Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and make decisions in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures.
• Ability to physically lift, carry, push, and/or pull large, heavy, and/or awkward objects.
• Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are generally performed inside with some outdoor work occurring on a regular basis. May include the delivery of hazardous materials.
