Maintenance Tech 1

This position is located in Davidson, North Carolina.

General Statement of Duties
Participates in the work of a crew performing street maintenance, park maintenance, and public facility maintenance and repair.
 
Distinguishing Features of the Class
The employee performs a wide variety of building, street, infrastructure, and park maintenance tasks.  Assists Maintenance Specialist in maintenance projects.  Employee is responsible for interpreting and following safety regulations when operating equipment and tools. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists. Work is supervised by the crew leader for adherence to instructions and established standards.Essential Duties and Tasks

• Perform, as part of a team, a wide variety of maintenance tasks such as removing trash, leaves, debris, and snow from facilities and public areas; repairing and maintaining all town facilities and buildings; and maintaining public infrastructure.
• Perform street and sidewalk maintenance such as patching asphalt and concrete pours and finishing, cleaning storm drains, and street signs.
• Assists with skilled work tasks at town facilities which may include carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Operate light to medium vehicles, heavy equipment, single axle dump truck and power tools. 
• Participates in stand-by status during natural disasters or inclement weather.
• Work in close proximity to vehicular traffic by setting up cones and signs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in 
• Other areas of assigned work including street maintenance, and public facility maintenance.
• Working knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned areas of work.
• Skill in the operation of light equipment and tools.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret documents.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
• Ability to enter time in the computer system.
• Ability to participate in stand-by duty and report back to work if called. 

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicles, perform trades tasks, inspect the work of others, and review work for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.

 
Desirable Education and Experience

• High school graduation or GED required; three years relevant experience in grounds and/or facility maintenance required.

 
Special Requirement

• Possession of a valid driver's license
