Job Summary
Essential FunctionsCommunicates patient diet orders for each meal to the department Data Center and ensures diet orders are accurately implemented.
Reviews patient trays to confirm each patient receives the correct meal and diet based on current orders.
Obtains trays from the tray line for new admissions and for patients whose diet orders have advanced.
Prepares, assembles, and delivers patient meal trays, including coffee, tea, ice cream, yogurt, garnishes, and other appropriate items.
Ensures trays are presented neatly and removes packaging and wrappings as appropriate.
Assists patients with opening milk, juice, condiments, and other meal items as needed.
Collects and returns used meal trays following each meal service.
Provides patients with menu selection sheets and daily specials, explaining the meal selection process and available options.
Assists patients who are unable to independently complete menu selections and communicates relevant information to appropriate department staff.
Demonstrates exceptional customer service and uses Excellent Encounter skills when interacting with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
Maintains a clean, organized, and sanitary patient service area and galley before, during, and after meal service.
Performs designated cleaning tasks and special cleaning assignments according to department schedules and standards.
Inventories and orders nourishments and nutritional supplements for between-meal service and patient trays, as assigned.
Monitors nourishment and supplement inventory and removes expired or outdated products in accordance with food safety standards.
May inventory and order supplies for nursing nourishment areas.
Retrieves supplies from the department Service Center, stocks designated
areas, and rotates perishable items using appropriate inventory practices.
Maintains effective working relationships with coworkers and establishes strong rapport with clinical and nursing staff on assigned units.
Communicates relevant patient information to the clinical dietitian, including concerns related to a patient's ability, willingness, or interest in eating.
May orient and train new employees on department procedures, workflows, and service standards.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate service to patients across the lifespan.
Applies knowledge of growth and development principles to recognize and respond appropriately to patients' age-specific needs.
Provides services in accordance with department policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires use of an N95 mask in accordance with department and organizational requirements.
