Summary:

The Designer supports electric distribution line design projects from initial planning through final deliverables. This role combines technical expertise in routing, modeling, and drafting with strong organizational and coordination skills to ensure compliance with client standards, utility requirements, and applicable regulatory criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

• Determine optimal distribution line routes, right-of-way (ROW) requirements, and structure configurations for overhead and underground distribution systems.

• Complete initial field surveys and organize collected data for use in distribution design activities.

• Incorporate survey, real estate, environmental, and permitting requirements into distribution line designs.

• Communicate effectively with project team.

• Build, review, and analyze distribution models using PLS-CADD or other applicable design and calculation tools.

• Perform distribution line design calculations and compliance checks in accordance with NESC, RUS, and client standards.

• Prepare and review construction drawings, material assemblies, structure details, and distribution line systems.

• Prepare material assemblies, Bills of Material (BOMs), and enter data into client-specific systems as required.

• Independently prepare equipment, major material, and construction specifications.

• Manage design deliverables, submittals, and client-specific documentation requirements.

• Assist engineers with construction support activities, including overhead and underground field staking.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.

• Typically, 5 or more years of relevant experience in electric distribution line design or drafting. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and practical experience may also be considered.

• Experience supporting or coordinating permitting processes (e.g., DOT, railroad, airport/FAA, and local authorities).

Skills:

• Proficiency in PLS-CADD, and/or other distribution line design analysis tools, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and GIS tools.

• Working understanding of NESC, RUS, and applicable client design standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.

• Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple design priorities across concurrent projects.

• Familiarity with material procurement workflows and construction specifications for distribution systems.

• Understanding of foundation concepts and underbuild design as they relate to distribution facilities.

At BHMG, our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. The pay range for this position is $70,000 - $125,000 annual. This range encompasses multiple levels of the role. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range. This position is eligible to earn additional compensation including extra effort pay and an annual bonus incentive based on individual and company performance. Career level and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered.
