Description
The 1st Shift Manufacturing Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to the packaging department and oversees all manufacturing activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, inventory yield, and cost objectives. Provides guidance and direction for production staff training and development needs to maintain a competitive and capable workforce within the department. Ensures strong documentation and communication of shift activities to other shifts and management.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental, Health and Safety-
Follow and enforce company environmental, health, and safety policies and associated training requirements.
Enforce work rules fairly and consistently.
Provide leadership and participate in process safety management programs.
Participate in and complete production-related actions associated with hazard analyses and process safety reviews.
Ensure the packaging department completes pre-production startup reviews and environmental, safety, and health-related pre-startup protocols.
Staff and Staffing-
Manage direct and temporary labor resources to maximize throughput while minimizing costs.
Ensure products are produced according to the plant schedule and required product specifications.
Build employee accountability and support high levels of performance.
Cross-train employees to improve workforce flexibility and responsiveness.
Maintain and update production protocols at the customer’s request.
Perform necessary human resources activities, including coaching, progressive discipline, and performance reviews.
Technical-
Understand operational and technical issues and work directly with plant management and the technical group to identify objectives and allocate resources appropriately.
Facilitate and support equipment or system changes driven by business cost reductions, product innovations or renovations, and changes in inventory management.
Ensure the safe introduction of new processes and products into the facility.
Operations-
Provide leadership within process areas to improve performance and maximize business profitability by increasing throughput, improving inventory yields, reducing losses, and supporting overall morale.
Develop and/or approve production procedures to ensure quality products are produced safely and effectively.
Control expenses and minimize facility repair costs.
Provide customer support and serve as a liaison to ensure customer needs are addressed satisfactorily.
Prepare and analyze weekly and monthly reports.
Ensure run sheets, batch sheets, and shift reports are complete and accurate.
Maintain an accurate accounting of all shift activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:
High School/GED
3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Strong knowledge of safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in a manufacturing setting.
Proven ability to lead teams, drive accountability, and manage performance.
Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication and collaboration skills across multiple functions.
Preferred Experience/Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, or related field.
Experience in packaging operations (liquid and/or granular)
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
Knowledge of process safety management and quality management systems.
Experience in high-speed or batch manufacturing environments.
Shift: 1st shift; 6:30 am - 3:30 pm M-F, occasional weekends/holidays.
Salary: $70,800 - $106,200
In most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of our salary ranges
