Description

Description

Standard Calibrations, Inc. (SCI) is seeking a Finance & Analytics Manager to lead the next phase of our Accounting and Finance function. This role is part of a planned transition with our retiring Controller, who has built a strong accounting foundation and made meaningful advancements across the department. This role will work closely with her during a 6 to 9-month transition to learn SCI’s processes, systems, history, and institutional knowledge. This role is intentionally designed with a clear path to Director of Finance & Analytics as the successful candidate demonstrates full ownership of the function, leadership of the team, and the ability to serve as a trusted financial partner across SCI.

At the same time, this person will work closely with SCI’s CFO/CIO to help shape the future of Finance & Analytics across the organization; to include strengthening FP&A, business intelligence and financial reporting, helping develop and leverage SCI’s data lake, advancing financial data governance, and identifying meaningful ways to use AI and automation to improve how we operate and make decisions.

The accounting foundation is critical. Candidates should confidently manage all aspects of the accounting function, lead and develop the Finance team, and ensure the fundamentals are consistently done well. This includes GAAP, close, controls, financial reporting, revenue recognition, inventory, cost accounting, tax coordination, and overall financial accuracy. Familiarity with government contracting and the financial and compliance requirements that come with that environment is also important given SCI’s business.

This is also a highly collaborative leadership role. The Finance & Analytics Manager will manage and mentor a team while working closely with the CFO/CIO, SCI’s owners and C-Suite, Senior Directors, and key department leaders. We are looking for someone who values strong relationships, collaboration, and mentorship and who is comfortable being an active financial partner throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the retiring Controller during the transition period to gain a strong understanding of SCI’s accounting processes, history, systems, and institutional knowledge.
  • Partner closely with the CFO/CIO on the continued development of SCI’s Finance, Analytics, BI, AI, and data strategy.
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong GAAP-based accounting practices and internal controls, including revenue recognition, inventory, cost accounting, reconciliations, tax coordination, and related financial activities.
  • Support financial and compliance requirements associated with SCI’s government work.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, scenario planning, and financial modeling.
  • Build strong working relationships with owners, C-Suite leaders, Senior Directors, and key department leaders.
  • Partner across the organization to understand business performance, challenge assumptions when appropriate, and turn financial information into actionable insight.
  • Help develop BI reporting, dashboards, financial analytics, and other tools that provide leadership with greater visibility into the business.
  • Play an important role in the development and use of SCI’s data lake as it relates to financial and operational decision-making.
  • Support SCI’s broader data governance efforts, with particular ownership around financial data integrity, consistency, controls, definitions, and usability.
  • Use financial and operational data to strengthen forecasting and growth modeling.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve Finance processes, reporting, analysis, and efficiency.
  • Continue developing scalable and well-documented processes that strengthen the department and reduce dependence on any one individual.
  • Upon Controller’s retirement, lead, develop, and mentor the Accounting and Finance team with clear expectations, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Create financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For

The right person will have a strong accounting foundation, but their impact will extend beyond Accounting. They should be comfortable moving between the details and the bigger picture—leading and developing their team, learning from the experience already in place, partnering closely with the CFO/CIO and CEO, working with department leaders, discussing business performance with senior leadership, and digging into the data to better understand what is driving the business.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a strong people leader who enjoys coaching, developing, and mentoring others.
  • Builds relationships naturally and values collaboration across functions.
  • Is comfortable working directly with the CFO/CIO, owners, C-Suite executives, Senior Directors, and other key leaders.
  • Has strong accounting knowledge and can confidently own the financial function.
  • Is familiar with government contracting environments and related financial requirements.
  • Has FP&A experience and understands budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Is highly accountable and dependable when it comes to accuracy, deadlines, and follow-through.
  • Is advanced in Excel and comfortable with BI tools, analytics, and large data sets.
  • Has a genuine curiosity and appetite for AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Understands how data governance supports financial reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
  • Can communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Brings energy and ambition while remaining professionally measured and realistic about capacity.
  • Is motivated to build on a strong foundation and grow into broader Finance and Analytics leadership.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Approximately 6–9 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Prior experience managing and developing a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with government contractual work.
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Meaningful FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and modeling.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with BI, dashboards, reporting, data analytics, or similar tools.
  • Experience working in or supporting a government contracting environment strongly preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inventory, cost accounting, or a growing small-to-midsize business is a plus.

Safety

It is SCI’s policy to require safe operations and practices and from all employees and to ensure a safe working environment.

Appearance

  • Business casual

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds (with equipment, as needed)
  • Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods of time when needed
