Job Description
Purpose of the job: The EHS Team Leader position exists to provide leadership and technical guidance in managing the EHS responsibilities for the Plant City Facility. This position develops strategies and programs aimed towards continuous improvement of EHS performance in alignment with EHS objectives. The Plant City EHS Team Leader’s key customers are the facility manager and production level team leaders and managers.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:1. Responsible for maintaining world class safety EHS Program the Plant City facilitya. Maintain and improve EHS programs consistent with corporate and OHSA VPP guidelines. b. Complete timely and thorough Incident Investigation and Corrective Action Planning c. Maintain Star Status in the Voluntary Protection Program and actively participate in the VPP Participants Association.d. Communicate program results to the plant team through creative presentations in the bi-weekly team meetings.e. Create sustainable systems that integrate EHS functions into the daily activities of the facility.f. Develop EHS Coordinator 2. Maintain facility’s history of Environmental Excellence a. Operate facility free of NOVs through continuing environmental education of both plant and EHS team. b. Review all processes and chemicals for environmental impact prior to their use. Maintain strong working relationship with all regulatory agencies. 3. Manage Workers Compensation reporting and costs. a. Maintain low WC costs by eliminating injuries, closing open cases in a timely manner, reporting injuries to TPA by deadlines and auditing system costs. b. Develop strong relationship with company doctor and local TPA adjuster. 4. Facilitate Safe Behavior Observation Processa. Reduce injuries by maintaining a highly effective peer-to-peer behavioral observation
process. b. Encourage 100% quality participation through stimulating and rewarding programs. c. Create and maintain databases to provide relevant and timely information to the facility. d. Focus crews on trends of unsafe behavior in their area to highlight and correct, prior to an incident.5. Annual EHS Training a. Provide stimulating and effective training for all facility team members. b. Ensure information is retained through post-training quizzes and continued education in team meetings.c. Develop and maintain databases to document and report facility attendance.6. Direct Safety and Satellite Teams towards the facility’s strategic goals and objectivesa. Utilize EHS/Lead Team meetings to set the facility goals and report on corrective action plans from incidents and the annual Key Element Surveyb. Develop effective teams that identify, track and resolve issues pertinent to their team function 7. New & modified equipment review and commissioning a. Ensure EHS Team is involved in the front end of all new/modified equipment planning. This ensures that the equipment will meet all expectations for safety and environmental performance. b. Ensure delivery of product to customers in a timely manner. 8. Meet corporate, business, and team objectives for antitrust compliance, business information protection, EEO, safety, quality, ethical behavior, and learning.a. Leadership Challenges 9. A key challenge for this position will be to maintain the EHS program’s momentum until the next VPP Star Status recertification. The safety and satellite teams will need new challenges to keep them engaged in their respective areas. The same is true of the Lead Team, and it will be the EHS Team Leader’s responsibility to make every year appear to be a “recertification” year. 10. Another key challenge will be to continue the development of the EHS coordinator position. This is a position that can add a lot of value to the facility through multiple contributions.a. Engineering Solutions: 11. Familiarity with the SQF Code and follow procedures associated with SQF 12. Ensure that team completes all training requirements13. Assist in annual verification of area SOP’s14. Participate in the yearly HAACP review 15. Participate in monthly food safety internal audits16. Responsible as the facility EHS&S PEPS pillar lead and must maintain a minimum of Bronze assessment certification.
Qualifications:Education, Skills and/or Experience Required: 1. Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, EHS or equivalent2. 2 years of EHS experience. Preferably in a Lithographic offset printing environment. 3. Experience with team-based work groups
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: 1. Must be able to accurately observe correct paths of travel and areas for product placement. 2. Must be able to communicate and exchange information with teammates.3. Must be able to operate office equipment including desktop computers, handheld devices, photocopiers, scanners, facsimile machines, and voicemail systems 4. Normally works an 8-hour shift but may work more hours as needed. 5. Sit 5-8 hours a day. 6. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion. 7. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, squat, climb, reach, grasp, grip, carry, and maneuver around an office and the production floor.8. Must be able to work on manufacturing production floor and able to wear all required safety equipment.9. The team member is required to be able to perform the above tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.
