POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and commission critical mechanical subsystems for advanced power-generation machinery. This role is designed for an engineer who thrives in a high-ownership, fast-paced environment, solving complex mechanical challenges and seeing designs move to operational hardware rapidly.
You will drive work across subsystem detail design, system-level integration, and rapid prototyping. Equipment involved includes high-speed rotating machinery, dynamic load systems, and high-power thermal management systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Concept & Requirements Engineering: Translate complex design challenges into functional requirements using first-principles methods (free-body diagrams, energy balances, pressure/flow mapping).
• System Specification & 3D Modeling: Define subsystem specifications, layout interconnects, and mechanical/electrical/flow interfaces. Develop high-fidelity, "as-built" 3D CAD models.
• Engineering & Structural Analysis: Conduct rigorous analysis covering multi-axis mechanical stresses, vibrational instability, fatigue, thermal growth/derating, tolerance stack-ups, and high-pressure/high-temperature fluid behavior.
• Vendor & Design Collaboration: Coordinate closely with fabrication partners and component vendors to ensure design manufacturability and real-world performance.
• Rapid Build, Test & Iteration: Create test plans, design test rigs, specify instrumentation, and execute hands-on testing to troubleshoot and refine iterations quickly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• On-site presence required at local testing and engineering facilities in the Reno / Carson City area.
