Paid Media Specialist - Ecommerce
Role Summary
Our partners in the US, an ecommerce advertising agency, are looking for a full-time Paid Media Specialist to join their remote team.
The role is heavily weighted toward Meta Ads, with Google Ads and TikTok also forming part of the account mix.
The successful candidate will work across established ecommerce accounts, taking ownership of campaign performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping brands grow profitably through paid media.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of hands-on paid media experience, strong ecommerce knowledge, and the confidence to step into existing accounts, understand what is happening quickly, and make commercially sound optimisation decisions with limited hand-holding.
If you love digging into performance data, finding the creative angles that actually convert, and scaling ecommerce brands profitably, this is the role for you!
Core Responsibilities
Paid Media & Account Management
- Take ownership of a portfolio of ecommerce advertising accounts across Meta Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads, with Meta forming the largest share of the role
- Audit existing client accounts to understand historical performance, campaign structure, tracking, audiences, creative performance and areas of opportunity
- Develop paid media strategies based on each client's products, target customers, commercial objectives and advertising budget
- Build, launch, manage and continuously optimise paid advertising campaigns
- Identify performance leaks, wasted spend and opportunities to improve revenue, acquisition costs and return on ad spend
- Manage campaign budgets and pacing to ensure accounts remain within agreed daily, weekly and monthly spend levels
- Reallocate spend between campaigns, audiences, products and platforms based on performance and commercial opportunity
- Monitor account health regularly and respond proactively to material changes in spend, conversion volume, CPA, ROAS and other key metrics
- Carry out structured testing across audiences, offers, campaign structures and landing-page direction
- Analyse performance across the full ecommerce funnel rather than focusing solely on platform-level metrics
- Understand how product price point, buying cycle, customer intent and consumer behaviour should influence advertising strategy
- Stay current with platform changes, new features and evolving best practices
Creative Strategy
The agency has creative production capabilities in-house, so the Paid Media Specialist will not be expected to design advertisements themselves.
They will, however, be expected to:
- Analyse creative performance across paid media accounts
- Identify which hooks, angles, messaging, offers and formats are producing the strongest results
- Recognise creative fatigue and recommend when new concepts or iterations are required
- Develop hypotheses for new creative tests based on campaign and customer data
- Compare winning and losing creative to identify meaningful performance patterns
- Translate advertising data into clear, actionable creative recommendations
- Brief the internal creative team on what should be produced or tested next
- Evaluate newly launched creative and feed performance insights back into the next creative cycle
- Understand that creative strategy and media buying are closely connected, particularly on Meta
Tracking & Technical Requirements
The ideal candidate should be able to independently manage and troubleshoot the tracking required to run reliable paid advertising campaigns.
Responsibilities include:
- Set up and verify Meta Pixel tracking
- Configure and troubleshoot conversion events
- Understand and work with Meta Conversions API (CAPI) implementations
- Set up and validate Google Ads conversion tracking
- Work with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager where required
- Test event firing and conversion accuracy before campaigns are scaled
- Diagnose discrepancies between advertising platforms, analytics platforms and ecommerce sales data
- Identify tracking failures quickly so campaign decisions are not made from unreliable data
- Ensure new accounts and campaigns have appropriate conversion measurement in place before significant advertising spend is committed
Ecommerce Performance & Optimisation
- Evaluate performance against meaningful ecommerce KPIs such as ROAS, CPA/CAC, revenue, conversion rate and purchase volume
- Look beyond vanity metrics such as impressions and clicks when evaluating whether campaigns are commercially successful
- Understand the impact of AOV, product price, margin, funnel stage and customer buying behaviour on paid media strategy
- Identify when poor advertising performance may actually be caused by the website, offer, product, pricing or conversion journey
- Analyse the relationship between prospecting and retargeting activity across the customer journey
- Understand attribution limitations and avoid making major strategic decisions from a single platform metric in isolation
- Design structured A/B tests around audiences, offers, landing-page direction, campaign structure and creative
- Scale successful campaigns methodically while maintaining sustainable acquisition economics
Reporting & Communication
The candidate will be responsible for paid media reporting, including:
- Create completed reports for each monthly reporting cycle ahead of agreed deadlines
- Review and proofread automated reporting data before anything is shared externally
- Validate figures and investigate anomalies rather than simply forwarding automated reports
- Add clear performance commentary explaining what happened, why it happened and what actions should follow
- Highlight meaningful trends, opportunities, risks and testing priorities
- Translate advertising metrics into commercially understandable insights
- Be able to explain campaign performance when required on client calls
- Gradually participate in client meetings as familiarity with the accounts develops
- Communicate confidently with internal stakeholders regarding account performance and recommended next steps
Experience & Skills
- 3+ years of hands-on paid media experience, ideally within a digital advertising or performance marketing agency
- Strong demonstrable experience managing ecommerce / DTC advertising accounts with budgets of $2k+
- Proven experience taking ownership of established paid media accounts.
- Strong understanding of ecommerce funnels and consumer buying behaviour from acquisition through purchase
- Experience advertising higher-consideration or higher-ticket ecommerce products is beneficial
- Strong analytical skills and a genuinely data-driven approach to decision-making
- Strong organisation and account-management skills, with the ability to prioritise across multiple ecommerce clients
- Comfortable working independently and making proactive recommendations rather than waiting for instructions
- Strong written and verbal English communication
- Comfortable collaborating remotely with an international team
- Able to stay current with changes, features and best practices across Meta, Google, TikTok and the wider ecommerce advertising landscape
