AFS is Seeking a Quality Engineer to Join Our Team

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer supports product and process quality across the manufacturing lifecycle, ensuring products are designed, manufactured, and tested in accordance with AFS requirements and applicable standards. This role drives quality system compliance, supplier quality performance, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting company quality and operational objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the AFS Quality Management System (QMS).
• Review product designs, specifications, manufacturing documentation, work instructions, procedures, and test methods to ensure quality requirements are defined and met.
• Lead quality planning activities related to engineering changes, including process flow analysis, process controls, and risk mitigation.
• Support and maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Participate in internal and external audits and drive corrective actions to closure.
• Investigate customer complaints, internal nonconformances, and supplier quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Determine root causes, implement corrective and preventive actions, and verify effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, PFMEAs, inspection plans, process assessments, and quality records.
• Analyze process and product performance data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Conduct capability studies, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Gage R&R activities, and implement improvement actions as needed.
• Monitor supplier quality performance through scorecards, performance metrics, and corrective action processes.
• Coordinate Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities and review supplier PPAP submissions for approval.
• Participate in Material Review Board (MRB), calibration, change management, deviation management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Train employees on quality tools, methods, procedures, and best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, supply chain, and other cross-functional teams to improve product quality and manufacturing effectiveness.
• Ensure quality processes support a safe working environment and comply with company safety requirements.
• Plan and prioritize daily activities to meet departmental objectives and business needs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Participate in company-provided training and professional development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (mechanical engineering, industrial engineer, etc.) preferred or equivalent experience
• Six Sigma Black or Green Belt preferred
• Statistical analysis (Minitab)
• Minimum 5 years in a quality related field
• Quality systems development
• Knowledge of CMM/ programming
• Machining, Casting and assembly (electronics and mechanical)
• Supplier and Internal Quality and Performance of audits
