You Are
An analytical and detail-oriented professional who can turn complex data into clear, actionable insights. You bring strong research, problem-solving, and programming skills, with the ability to develop analytical models, automate workflows, and communicate findings to technical and nontechnical audiences. You work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and approach sensitive information with accuracy, discretion, and integrity.

How You Will Make an Impact
You will develop data-driven solutions that strengthen audits, investigations, inspections, and program evaluations. Using Python, SQL, statistical modeling, machine learning, and visualization tools, you will integrate and analyze data to identify risks, detect anomalies, and inform oversight decisions. Your work will deliver reliable, reproducible analyses, practical dashboards, and clear recommendations, while equipping staff with the documentation and training needed to sustain these capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform data analytics, statistical and non-statistical modeling, data mining, and data-management activities supporting projects and initiatives.
• Gather and store source data in its original form, then process, clean, normalize, validate, and integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
• Design, develop, and maintain analytical models, scripts, algorithms, and automated workflows.
• Design experiments, test hypotheses, and develop scalable analytical models using data-science and artificial-intelligence methods, including machine learning.
• Design, develop, and adapt mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other analytical solutions supporting audit, investigative, research, and program evaluation activities.
• Develop interactive dashboards and reporting tools using Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
• Conduct risk modeling, anomaly detection, trend analysis, and predictive analytics to support investigations, audits, and inspections.
• Collaborate with investigators, auditors, analysts, and subject-matter experts to define analytical requirements and deliver data-driven solutions. 
• Use Python, SQL, and other programming languages to manipulate, analyze, and transform datasets and automate analytical processes.
• Perform ad hoc audit and investigative data-analysis requests and communicate findings in written and verbal formats.
• Prepare comprehensive reports addressing data adequacy and quality, methodologies, assumptions, results, findings, recommendations, and the relevance of the issues under review.
• Document data sources, methodologies, model assumptions, analytical workflows, code, data pipelines, and models to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and continuity. 
• Provide training to staff on all work products developed, including preparing user guides, manuals, technical documentation, and other knowledge-transfer materials.
• Monitor, maintain, and update analytical models, scripts, and data workflows as technologies, data sources, and mission requirements evolve.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal security, privacy, accessibility, and data-governance requirements.

Here's What You Need

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related discipline 
• 3-5 years of experience in management analysis, program evaluation, or a related role
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex data and information
• Experience conducting research, evaluating programs or processes, and developing data-driven recommendations for improvement
• Experience planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing projects through timely completion
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate findings, recommendations, and complex information to diverse stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders  
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated accuracy in data analysis, process documentation, and report preparation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as relevant data-analysis, dashboard, visualization, and project-management tools
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion, ethical conduct, and integrity
• Familiarity with the functions, operations, and objectives of an Office of Inspector General or a similar oversight organization (highly preferred)
• Must be a U.S. citizen and successfully complete the required background investigation and onboarding process.

Work Location
This position supports the National Science Foundation Office of Inspector General (NSF OIG) located in National Science Foundation. Work may be performed onsite, hybrid, or as otherwise directed.

Compensation 
Salary is dependent on experience (DOE) and will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, and applicable requirements.
