Group 1 Automotive, Inc. is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting. As a key leader within the Shared Services organization, the Senior Manager - Accounting provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and people leadership for the General Accounting, Billing, and Commissions Accounting functions. This position delivers end-to-end functional management for all brands, markets across approximately 150 U.S. dealerships. The Senior Manager will safeguard the integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting of financial and operational information for the area of responsibility. Additionally, the Senior Manager is responsible for developing and enhancing processes, procedures, and internal controls to drive efficiency, maintain compliance, and support continuous improvement within the Shared Services function.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the resource management for an average $7M operating budget, leading a team comprising 100+ managers, assistant managers, and accounting professionals.
- Source, create, and sustain high-performing teams within the scope of responsibility. Provide management, coaching, and direction to functional teams; conduct performance evaluations, foster employee engagement, and develop teams, providing growth opportunities for managers and staff that align with business objectives.
- Lead resolution of escalated issues; serve as the subject matter expert for complex accounting matters and decision-making within the function.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and the effective use of technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy across Shared Services functions.
- Partner with other corporate, operational, and regional teams to align processes, resolve issues, and support organizational initiatives.
- Produce regular performance and operational reports for executive leadership, ensuring transparency and data-driven decision-making.
- Create and maintain training resources to ensure consistent application of processes and policies across functions.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and reporting activities, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to corporate standards and federal regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures to ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP, regulatory requirements, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), and evolving business needs.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits, ensuring timely preparation of audit documentation and effective remediation of findings—Lead Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance efforts for assigned functions.
- Ensure the integrity, completeness, accuracy, and appropriate presentation of financial data across all areas of responsibility, adhering to U.S. GAAP and company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required
- CPA preferred
- 10+ years of experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity
- Demonstrated success leading large, multi-layered teams and created an engaging, accountable, and high-performing work environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize and present complex information clearly to varied audiences.
- Strong customer-service orientation and a consistent record of keeping stakeholders informed and delivering results.
- Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office; experience with Alteryx and automation technologies
- Strong leadership, team management, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including the ability to create a motivating work environment for others.
- Automotive Dealership Experience is a plus
