The University of Miami's Department of Psychology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Case Manager to work in Miami Lakes, FL.  

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) has an open Case Manager position to work with adolescents and adults with autism and related disabilities. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, behavior analysis, social work or related field and 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, compassion, time management, organization, and problem-solving skills are a must. Expected to have good public speaking skills, and a dynamic presentation style. This position is based in Miami-Dade County.

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct individual family assistance to all eligible adolescent and adult CARD clients. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in analyzing, interpreting, and determining a proper course of action, support, and resource referrals that best serve client needs. Works closely with the client/family, demonstrating good judgment and discretion to ensure that referrals are appropriate for the changing client needs across the lifespan.
  • Maintains an active caseload of several hundred adolescent and adult CARD clients, independently providing an array of educational, transition, and employment support services in schools, homes and other community settings. Facilitates case coordination for these clients and information sharing with other providers involved in the case (as permitted by law).
  • Provides expert consultation and technical assistance services to local schools and other educational programs serving individuals with autism and related disabilities.
  • Develops and conducts highly specialized constituent/family and professional training, workshops, seminars, and conferences on topics related to the education, transition services, employment, treatment, and better understanding of autism and related disabilities. Expected to have good public speaking skills, strong organizational skills, and a dynamic presentation style.
  • Independently reviews diagnostic and other medical and social service reports to determine eligibility for services at CARD and within other local, State and Federal agencies.
  • Independently writes and maintains case reports, electronic client records, and other professional correspondence in accordance with applicable standards and regulations and maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding client confidentiality.
  • Participates in public education and awareness activities related to CARD and its constituents, including community-based speaking engagements, health and resource fairs, and other special events within the CARD catchment area.
  • Participates in the planning and coordination of regional teacher training workshops, the CARD/DOE Partnership program, a statewide program designed to support teachers in local communities. Displays strong leadership abilities in mentoring teachers and other professionals in best practices as they relate to educating students with autism.
  • Independently plans and administers support and activity groups (e.g. support groups, social groups, life skills, employment readiness program) for eligible adolescent and adult clients, as well as groups for their family members (e.g., parents, siblings).
  • Participates in case conferences, staff meetings and quarterly regional full staff meetings. Exchanges pertinent information with supervisor and receives supervision as needed.
  • Maintains a network of appropriate referrals related to the needs of clients and independently makes appropriate referrals for clients and families as part of the regular duties.
  • Maintains contact data, case notes, and other records in accordance with statewide CARD uniform reporting guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                         

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
