The Opportunity
The Systems Engineer position works on site in our San Diego, CA location in the Infectious Diseases Business Unit. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
About the Role
As a Systems Engineer, you will help design, develop, test, and improve complex systems throughout their entire lifecycle. You'll work across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure products meet customer needs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
Support system design, development, integration, and testing activities
Document requirements, processes, technical reports, and engineering changes
Investigate root causes of manufacturing and product challenges and recommend solutions
Collaborate with engineering teams including Design, Software, Test, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations
Define and analyze system requirements and specifications
Participate in design reviews and evaluate system performance and reliability
Conduct system and risk analyses to identify and resolve issues
Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and product quality
Apply systems engineering best practices throughout the product lifecycle
Maintain current knowledge of engineering methods, tools, and industry standards
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
Minimum of 3 years of systems engineering experience
Experience leading complex system analysis and risk assessments
Experience using data to support decisions and influence stakeholders
Ability to apply principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
Demonstrated Customer Focus, making their needs a primary focus for one's actions.
Experience leading complex system and risk analysis.
Ability to lead and utilize data to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and concepts
