Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

Fulfill position functions and responsibilities necessary for ethical and efficacious provision of a Creative Arts Therapist (e.g., Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Art Therapy).  Plan developmentally-appropriate individual and group clinical sessions to meet resident-specific goals. Function as integral part of the Creative Arts Therapy team and neighborhood-based interdisciplinary team to promote quality family-centered care.

 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES – CREATIVE ARTS THERAPIST

  • Maintain active clinical caseload as agreed upon with the Director of Creative Arts Therapies, including both group and individual sessions with child-centered, measurable goals.
  • Represent the Creative Arts Therapies department on assigned neighborhood(s) by attending neighborhood clinical status, maintaining interdisciplinary communication, and participating in neighborhood-based initiatives and special events. Communicate Creative Arts Therapy referrals to the CAT team and conduct assessments for referred residents and determine the need for services.
  • Assure accurate physician’s orders for all residents on caseload, and consistently fulfill orders.
  • Participate in Plan of Care meetings when applicable to discuss clinical goals and progress.
  • Maintain standard data-gathering techniques during all phases of clinical processing including assessment, therapy and evaluation.
  • Adhere to established clinical documentation standards in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct initial screenings of new admissions to determine potential psychosocial, mental and behavioral health needs. Present findings and recommendations for services to the Creative Arts Therapy team. Participate in ongoing care planning to provide appropriate psychosocial and trauma informed care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to provide highest quality of care.
  • Participate in the supervision and training of Creative Arts Therapy students, pre-interns, and interns as designated by the Clinical Training Coordinator.
  • Participate in providing Creative Arts Therapy orientation, in-services and educational opportunities for ESCC staff.
  • Actively participate in the Palliative Care Committee.
  • Participate in other pertinent ESCC Committees and teams as appropriate.
  • Facilitate bereavement services to provide emotional support for staff and family members prior to and following the death of a resident.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of department-led special events and projects.
  • Comply with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc. including requirements for board certification, as appropriate.
  • Engage in on-going continuing education opportunities consistent with professional standards.
  • May engage in on-going clinical supervision, through internal or external means, consistent with professional standards
  • Clinically represent the department and center through external professional presentations, publications, and/or committee work.
  • Maintain departmental supplies and demonstrate appropriate care of departmental materials.
  • Requisition supplies with the approval of the supervisor.
  • Flexibility to work rotating weekend hours to meet the needs of the residents.
  • May provide complementary therapies if are trained and certified.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Adhere to AMTA Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics.
  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy or the equivalent.
  • Board certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) New York State license in Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT) or LCAT-eligible.

Experience

MUSIC THERAPIST POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with medically complex children preferred
  • Two years clinical experience in music therapy

Employee Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

 

Salary Range:

$64,000.00/Yr. to $70,000.00/Yr.
