This is an important senior delivery role leading critical regulatory and strategic data outcomes across Core Banking. You will help BNZ deliver trusted, high-quality data products with the right controls, operational readiness and stakeholder confidence. 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Project Manager to join the Core Banking Data team and help shape how regulatory and other key data products are delivered and managed as enduring business assets — ensuring the right data is available, trusted and fit for purpose to support customers, regulatory obligations and BNZ’s strategic priorities.

This is a full time, fixed term opportunity based in Auckland. it is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.

What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?  

• Lead delivery planning and execution for regulatory data initiatives and other key data priorities, including milestones, submissions, testing, implementation, production readiness and transition to BAU. 

• Coordinate delivery across Data, Risk, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Architecture, Platform, Source System and vendor teams to align priorities, unblock dependencies and support clear decision-making. 

• Own delivery governance, RAID management, executive reporting and escalation across multiple interdependent workstreams. 

• Manage regulatory data products as enduring business assets, with a focus on ownership, controls, lineage, data quality and operational support. 

• Manage programme finances, forecasting, vendor delivery, contract oversight and delivery support across internal teams and partners. 

 What is the team culture and environment like?  

The team is made up of experienced data engineers and data delivery enablers, including Data Project Managers and Business Analysts. Data delivery enablers bridge technical and business requirements by identifying dependencies, risks and priorities so the team can deliver with clarity and confidence.

In the wider group (Technology) we foster an open, flexible and inclusive environment that supports collaboration within the immediate team and across the teams in the wider Technology organisation.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?  

The Senior Project Manager will lead key regulatory data initiatives and other strategic data priorities. The role will focus on delivering trusted data products while helping Core Banking govern, support and manage these assets beyond project delivery. 

This will involve balancing regulatory and strategic milestones, stakeholder expectations, business outcomes, data quality, platform dependencies and operational readiness across multiple technology and business workstreams.

The role sits at the intersection of data transformation, regulatory delivery and business value, helping BNZ strengthen how regulatory data products are owned, controlled and supported over time. 

What technical skills are required for this role?  

• Technical understanding of data delivery, data platforms, data warehousing, reporting, architecture and databases will be important for this position. 

• The successful candidate does not need to be hands-on technically, but will need to work closely with data engineers, architects and analysts to understand how data moves, where dependencies exist, and what needs to be managed to deliver trusted outcomes. 

• This includes identifying data dependencies and delivery challenges across source systems, environments, business rules, testing activities, reporting outputs, data quality, reconciliation, lineage, access and operational readiness.
