As the Technical Manager for the Surrey-Langley Stations Project, your role is key in ensuring the design management, technical integrity, innovation, and successful delivery of the Project.  

Lead the Stations technical aspects of the Project, architectural, structures, civil works, MEP coordination, from design development to construction execution. 

Responsibilities

• Lead/supervise the technical working group meetings and participate in other relevant working group meetings. 
• Supervise and mentor the design-build coordinators. 
• Provide leadership in the development and review of design concepts, ensuring alignment with Project requirements, standards, and specifications. 
• Collaborate with the design team to balance innovation, cost-effectiveness, and constructability in design solutions. 
• Oversee the coordination of engineering disciplines to ensure an integrated and cohesive design. 
• Ensure that relevant design management plans and assurance plans are adhered to, within area of responsibility. 
• Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and communication to resolve technical challenges. 
• Assist in the implementation of value engineering processes to optimize design solutions in terms of cost, schedule, and performance. 
• Collaborate with the Project team to identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency in design and construction. 
• Collaborate with the design team to address design changes, approvals, and documentation in accordance with Project requirements. 
• Manage quality control processes to ensure that the design activities meet or exceed established standards. 
• Conduct technical reviews and audits to verify compliance with Project specifications and regulatory requirements. 
• Ensure that all technical aspects of the Project comply with relevant laws, codes, and regulations. 
• Identify and promote innovative technologies and construction methods that enhance Project efficiency, sustainability, and safety. 
• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to bring cutting-edge solutions to the Project. 
• Work closely with construction teams to ensure a smooth transition from design to construction. 
• Provide technical support during construction, addressing design-related issues and ensuring adherence to technical specifications. 

• Identify and assess technical risks associated with the Project and work collaboratively with the risk management team to develop mitigation strategies. 
• Address technical challenges promptly prevent delays and cost overruns. 
• Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the technical team. 
• Foster collaboration among architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve a cohesive and integrated Project delivery. 

Essential Functions

• Manage project-based design teams and ensure the timely production of design information.  
• Ensure that all design deliverables are reviewed to establish they are within budget, technically compliant, fully coordinated and buildable.  

• Identify, manage & assist in the production of alternate Design proposals if beneficial to the project.  
• Maintain close relationships with the client and third-party designer organizations.  

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical skills; ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
• Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
• Problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong organizational, operational planning, and time management skills; able to manage tasks simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality.

Experience/Qualifications

• 15- 20 years of experience working on similar projects.
• Demonstrated design management skills and construction experience.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary design consultants and design teams.
• Well-developed communication, interface and liaison skills.
• Understanding and ability to work within the relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to develop and administer technical standards and specification. 

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $170k–$175k CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
