In India, Generac entered the market in 2019 through the acquisition of Captiva Energy Solutions, a bespoke generator manufacturer. Since then, significant investments have been made to scale operations and fully integrate the business into Generac’s global platform. The local headquarters and manufacturing facility are based in Kolkata, supported by regional and remote offices across India. Generac has ambitious growth plans for India, positioning the country as a strategic market within its global footprint.
Purpose of the role
This is a high-impact operational leadership role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Generac Captiva Pvt. Ltd. The selected candidate will have end-to-end responsibility for manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, quality, project execution, service operations, and Environment, Health and Safety, ensuring that operational capabilities support the Company’s commercial strategy and growth objectives in India.
The role requires strong manufacturing leadership, disciplined execution, and the ability to build scalable processes and teams aligned with Generac’s global standards. A key objective will be to elevate the Kolkata manufacturing operation to full global quality, safety, delivery, and productivity standards, while developing the capability to support exports to other Generac subsidiaries worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end operations of the Indian subsidiary, including manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, quality, project execution, service operations, and Environment, Health and Safety.
- Translate the Company’s commercial strategy and demand plan into an integrated operational plan covering capacity, production, materials, resources, inventory, projects, and service delivery.
- Drive manufacturing performance through clear operating routines and key performance indicators focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, inventory, and customer satisfaction.
- Upgrade the Kolkata manufacturing facility, processes, and quality systems to meet Generac’s global standards and enable the site to support export requirements and intercompany demand.
- Lead Sales and Operations Planning in coordination with the CEO, Sales, Finance, Product Management, and other relevant functions, ensuring alignment between market demand, production capacity, working capital, and delivery commitments.
- Strengthen supply chain resilience and supplier performance, including sourcing strategy, supplier qualification and development, material availability, inventory optimization, logistics, and cost competitiveness.
- Ensure robust project execution from order handover through engineering, procurement, production, installation, commissioning, and final customer acceptance, with disciplined management of scope, timing, cost, quality, and risk.
- Build an effective service operating model that supports installation, commissioning, warranty, preventive maintenance, spare parts availability, and responsive field support.
- Partner with global and local Engineering and R&D teams to industrialize products, improve manufacturability, standardize solutions, manage technical changes, and align the product portfolio with operational capabilities.
- Establish and continuously improve quality management systems, root-cause problem solving, product and process controls, non-conformity management, and corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across the organization, using structured problem solving, lean principles, process standardization, digital tools, and data-based performance management.
- Own the operations budget and operating cost base in partnership with Finance, including productivity plans, capital expenditure priorities, make-or-buy evaluations, cost reduction, and working capital improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, environmental, health, safety, product, and operational requirements, as well as Generac policies and internal control standards.
- Identify and manage operational risks, business continuity priorities, capacity constraints, supplier dependencies, and execution issues, providing timely visibility and mitigation plans to the CEO and relevant stakeholders.
- Build, lead, and develop high-performing operational teams, strengthening accountability, succession, technical capability, cross-functional collaboration, and a culture of safety, quality, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and Generac global leadership, providing transparent reporting on operational performance, priorities, risks, investments, and transformation initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven senior operational leadership experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment, with responsibility for complex, cross-functional operations.
- Experience in technology-driven capital equipment businesses, such as diesel or gas generators, HVAC, commercial and industrial pumps, or comparable engineered products; knowledge of the power generation industry is a strong advantage.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain, sourcing, quality systems, project execution, service operations, and Environment, Health and Safety.
- Demonstrated success in improving safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, inventory, and customer service through structured operational excellence initiatives.
- Experience in scaling or transforming manufacturing operations and aligning local processes with global standards; exposure to export-oriented operations is a plus.
- Solid financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing operations budgets, capital expenditure, product cost, working capital, and productivity programs.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change, develop management teams, and create strong cross-functional accountability.
- Strategic vision combined with a hands-on, execution-focused leadership style and strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Operations, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and international environment.
