Job Purpose

The Electrical Compliance & Asset Reliability Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership, governance and assurance across the UK retail maintenance estate, ensuring electrical compliance, asset integrity and operational reliability are maintained to the highest standards. The role will act as the electrical authority for the Maintenance Team, supporting the safe operation of critical infrastructure while driving improvements in asset uptime, maintenance performance and maintenance-related revenue recovery.
 

This is a field-based role requiring regular travel across the UK estate. The job holder will provide on-site technical support, compliance audits, contractor assurance, incident investigation and coaching. The role requires strong practical electrical maintenance experience, knowledge of EV maintenance, IOSH safety capability and a detailed understanding of OMS compliance requirements and standards.
 

The role will lead the development of a consistent electrical compliance framework across the estate and provide informed technical challenge to contractors, suppliers and internal partners. It will also support key transformation activity, including supplier transitions, asset tagging, compliance improvement programmes and reliability initiatives, while establishing a robust electrical asset and compliance baseline for future investment and predictive maintenance opportunities.
 

Key Accountabilities

• Act as the UK Maintenance electrical domain expert, providing practical technical guidance and constructive challenge across electrical maintenance and compliance activities.
• Undertake regular travel and field-based site visits across the UK estate to verify asset condition, compliance standards, maintenance quality and contractor performance.
• Lead electrical compliance assurance across fuel, forecourt, retail and EV charging assets, ensuring statutory, regulatory, bp and OMS requirements are understood and applied.
• Provide governance and technical guidance for OMS compliance activities, supporting the continued development of maintenance standards, controls and assurance processes.
• Establish and maintain a single electrical asset and compliance baseline across the UK estate, including clear ownership of gaps, actions and supporting records.
• Provide specialist maintenance and compliance knowledge for EV charging infrastructure and support improvements in EV asset reliability and operational performance.
• Support resolution of electrical compliance challenges identified through field activity and help to establish sustainable long-term solutions.
• Provide technical guidance, continuity and challenge during contract change, novation, mobilisation or supplier transition activity.
• Lead the development and deployment of the asset tagging programme to improve asset identification, work order accuracy, asset data quality, reporting and visibility.
• Investigate significant or recurring electrical failures, applying root cause analysis and recommending preventative actions that improve asset uptime and reduce lost revenue.
• Challenge contractor and supplier recommendations to ensure proposed solutions are safe, compliant, technically robust and provide appropriate value.
• Support predictive maintenance and reliability strategies through improved asset data, condition insight and identification of recurring failure trends.
• Deliver electrical audits, assurance reviews and corrective action plans, calling out material risks and monitoring actions through to closure.
• Build capability through coaching, mentoring and structured knowledge transfer across the wider maintenance team and contractor community.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation across electrical maintenance, compliance, asset management and governance processes.

Job Holder Requirements

(Minimum education, experience & capabilities)
 

Education & Professional Qualifications

• Recognised electrical engineering or electrical qualification, such as HNC/HND, NVQ, City & Guilds, degree or equivalent practical experience.
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent IOSH qualification.
• Relevant electrical competency certifications.
• Formal auditing, compliance or risk management qualification is desirable.
   

Experience

• Significant hands-on electrical maintenance experience within a multi-site operational environment is critical.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical legislation, compliance requirements, maintenance standards and industry good practice.
• Practical knowledge of EV charging infrastructure, including EV maintenance, operational risks and compliance considerations.
• Strong knowledge of OMS compliance requirements, standards, governance and assurance processes.
• Experience working with fuel forecourt, retail, commercial, critical infrastructure or similarly complex operational assets.
• Experience conducting site-based compliance audits, technical assurance reviews and electrical incident or failure investigations.
• Confirmed experience improving asset reliability, reducing repeat failures and supporting improvements in uptime.
• Experience challenging and assuring contractors, suppliers and technical recommendations.
• Experience supporting maintenance transformation, mobilisation, contract change or supplier transition activity.
• Able and willing to work in a field-based role and travel regularly across the UK estate.
