If you are a dependable professional looking for an opportunity to break into the railroad industry, Road & Rail Services is hiring Railcar Prep Technicians at our Greensburg, Indiana operation.
Previous railroad experience is not required. We are looking for reliable, safety-minded people who are ready to learn the industry, work outdoors, and build valuable railroad experience.
You'll start at $18.00 per hour, with the opportunity to earn the equivalent of $19.00 per hour for the week through our safety incentive program when applicable safety requirements are met. Work safely, follow procedures, and you can put more money in your paycheck.
What You'll Learn and Do
Railcar Prep Technicians help prepare railcars before vehicles can be safely loaded and transported. This gives you hands-on exposure to railroad equipment, safety procedures, inspections, and daily rail operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Inspect railcars for damage, debris, wear, and potential safety concerns
Prepare railcar interiors for vehicle loading
Use backpack blowers, scrapers, and approved tools to remove debris
Assist with opening, securing, and closing railcar end doors
Identify and report conditions that may require repair
Inspect tools and equipment before beginning work
Maintain company-issued tools and equipment
Keep railcars and surrounding work areas clean and organized
Follow railroad, customer, and company safety procedures
Wear required PPE and maintain situational awareness around rail equipment
Who We're Looking For
You don't need a railroad background to get started. Experience in manufacturing, construction, automotive, warehouse operations, landscaping, general labor, maintenance, or other outdoor environments can transfer well into this position.
Successful candidates should have:
Valid state-issued driver's license
Dependable attendance and punctuality
Strong safety awareness
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Willingness to learn railroad procedures
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Interest in developing a long-term career in the rail industry
Outdoor, Hands-On Work
This position is performed primarily outdoors around railcars and railroad equipment. Employees must be comfortable working in heat, cold, rain, dust, and changing weather conditions.
The job also requires extended standing and walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, repetitive movement, and using hand tools and backpack blowers.
