Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and production support equipment. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead and Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician helps ensure maximum equipment uptime, safe operation, and efficient production by responding to maintenance requests and completing scheduled maintenance activities.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and capable of diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of industrial equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment according to established schedules.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.
- Repair equipment to minimize downtime and support production goals.
- Inspect machinery and equipment to identify potential failures before they occur.
- Replace worn or defective components using proper maintenance procedures.
- Assist with equipment installation, relocation, upgrades, and commissioning.
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain facility systems including lighting, plumbing, compressed air systems, doors, HVAC support equipment, and general building infrastructure.
- Perform basic carpentry, welding, fabrication, and facility repairs as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance work areas.
Material Handling Equipment
- Assist in maintaining forklifts, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and other powered industrial equipment.
- Support inspections and repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards and manufacturer recommendations.
Preventive Maintenance
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks accurately and on schedule.
- Document completed work in the maintenance management system or maintenance logs.
- Report recurring equipment failures and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.
- Diagnose equipment failures using mechanical and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
- Perform emergency repairs to restore production as quickly and safely as possible.
- Communicate equipment status and repair progress to the Maintenance Team Lead.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, electrical safety, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Identify unsafe conditions and report hazards immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance.
- Suggest maintenance process improvements and equipment reliability enhancements.
- Support production teams by providing technical assistance when needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, heavy industrial, or production environments preferred.
- Working knowledge of:
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Industrial machinery
- Welding and fabrication
- Basic knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment is preferred.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance activities.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or vocational training in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechanical systems is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms.
- Ability to work around moving machinery and production equipment.
- Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions while working outdoors or in non-climate-controlled environments.
- Ability to work overtime and respond to emergency maintenance needs as required.
