Job Description:
The Manager, Facility Design & Planning leads facility planning, design, space management, and documentation activities across multiple company locations. This position develops and maintains facility planning standards and long-term strategies that support operational needs, organizational growth, and effective utilization of company facilities. The role partners with operational leaders and other key stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable facility plans, capacity strategies, and workplace solutions. This position also leads and develops a team responsible for facility planning, drafting, documentation, and related activities.Primary Duties:
- Leads facility design and planning activities across multiple locations, including the development and maintenance of facility drawings, floor plans, site layouts, and long-term facility plans.
- Develops current-state and future-state facility plans to support operational growth, manufacturing expansion, staffing requirements, capital projects, and strategic initiatives.
- Oversees space management and capacity planning activities, including space allocation, utilization analysis, occupancy planning, and identification of future facility needs.
- Establishes and maintains company-wide facility planning, design, drafting, workplace, and documentation standards to promote consistency and scalability across locations.
- Oversees the management and governance of facility documentation, including property records, permits, occupancy documentation, leases, surveys, and related facility records.
- Partners with business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to understand operational requirements and develop facility solutions that support organizational objectives.
- Provides facility planning analyses, capacity studies, conceptual layouts, and strategic recommendations to support business planning and investment decisions.
- Establishes team priorities, allocates resources, and drives continuous improvement in facility planning processes, documentation practices, and planning capabilities.
- Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Develops workspace and department-level space allocation plans to support current and future business requirements.
- Monitors facility utilization and capacity needs and recommends strategies to address space constraints and future growth.
- Coordinates facility documentation reviews and audits to promote accuracy, completeness, appropriate retention, and accessibility of facility records.
- Supports capital planning and facility projects through conceptual layouts, space requirements, occupancy planning, and facility planning recommendations.
- Develops guidelines and best practices for workspace configurations, common areas, parking, and other facility planning considerations.
- Presents facility plans, capacity analyses, design concepts, and recommendations to leadership and other stakeholders.
- Collaborates with facility, operations, project, financial, and human resources teams to coordinate space and workplace requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, Drafting Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline;
- 7+ years of experience in facility planning, space planning, architecture, facilities management, drafting, or a related discipline, including 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience;
- or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
- Experience supporting multiple facilities or geographically distributed operations preferred.
- Experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience developing facility standards, planning processes, and document management practices preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of facility planning, space utilization, capacity planning, and facility design principles.
- Strong knowledge of facility drawings, layouts, drafting practices, and related design documentation.
- Knowledge of building construction, facility systems, permitting, occupancy requirements, and property documentation.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop teams, establish priorities, and manage resources across multiple projects and locations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate operational and organizational growth requirements into facility planning strategies.
- Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation and records management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.

- Proficiency with computer-aided design and related facility planning tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting organizational requirements.

- Ability to interpret facility drawings, plans, layouts, property documentation, and related technical information.

- Ability to periodically walk through manufacturing, warehouse, office, and construction environments to observe facility conditions and planning requirements.
- Ability to travel periodically between company locations as required.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment when entering designated manufacturing or construction areas.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in an office environment utilizing standard computer and office equipment.
- Periodically works within manufacturing facilities, warehouses, construction areas, and other operational environments.
- May be exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts, varying temperatures, dust, and other conditions associated with manufacturing and construction environments during facility visits.
- Regular interaction and collaboration with operational leaders, facility personnel, project teams, employees, and external stakeholders.
- Periodic travel between company facilities may be required.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required when entering designated operational or construction areas.
